I haven't been able to see any early action. How has he looked? I'm just curious because I've seen a few pretty good stat lines when he's gotten minutes

Looks like a man who is aware of the new tv deals and is trying to get paid. He's been great.

I would give him a C+
Scoring in some ways he won't be able to when REAL games start. Terrible defense, doesn't really rebound, solid passer
I predict people will do the opposite of what they do with Asik because they want to believe in the new guy. With Asik, every bad thing is pointed out while nothing good is acknowledged. The opposite is being done right now with Jones IMO

Well one of those guys we traded a first round pick for and signed him to a $50 mil contract, the other we are paying peanuts.

He's shown rapport with AD. Which is to be expected. Looks very versatile offensively. Will totally come in handy in games to come.
Lots of reason for optimism. Would like to see him do better on defense and on the boards.

According to Gentry, Jones is a "great rebounder" I really worry about Gentry sometimes.

This will be another barometer for how they are judged, but to me their price tags don't matter anymore
What is done is done and their contracts are signed. Now this is the roster we have. I think Asik is the superior overall player. Ten times better? Of course not, but you have to play with what you have. The scoreboard doesn't act differently because you are playing a guy who is a better value

sure. what's done is done.
same time, the salary is commensurate to expectations. up to this admittedly early point, Asik got a deal that he has woefully underperformed (like Eric Gordon). doesn't mean that he will always be this poor and/or fail to live up to his deal.
yet, if he's unable to fulfill his role, that is a larger problem for the team. while a minimum guy not meeting expectations is a smaller one.
asik can be better than jones, but still a bigger impediment to team success entirely because of $

Agree with all that. But people are saying start Jones or play Jones more. That I disageee with
And I believe they say that because their expectations are lower with Jones for the reason you pointed out. Then, that results in them noticing only the positives with him. Which leads to them saying he is better than Asik.
Which he is not.

Yup.
Even if Jones could be the guy he showed a couple years back (a big if), his skill set is less valuable to this team than what Asik can do.
I'd take 14/15 post ASB Asik every single time over 13/14 Jones

At this point it's get out and show me what you can do when it's game time. Everything else falls by the wayside

And Jones shows the things casual fans watch for. A casual fan doesn't care about screen setting or sealing an offensive player to keep him off the glass, etc.
They look at the box score, see points and yell, "Why isn't Jones starting?!" That will undoubtedly start happening within a month

What did Jones ever do to you?
Posted on 10/24/16 at 6:30 am to theducks
I said he was playing at a C+ level- which is above average by the way
I just said another guy was better. Every player can't be the best ever. In a league with 450 players, it's all relative. They are all great, relative to the rest of the world, but some have less value than others when compared to the other 449

The YAYpoints! syndrome.
Unless I misread, I've seen people talking about Jones at the 5. That is willful delusion

I mean, he will play it just like Ryno did
But there is a difference between playing it and playing it well

Not to derail, but could you look into trading Asik and a 2nd to Orlando for Vucevic?
With the addition of Biyombo, you maybe able to get him from them..he's signed through 2020 and is getting basically basically the same as Asik if not less.
Now you'd have a scoring threat at the 5, AD can now have some room to operate and from what I've seen, Vucevic can be an animal on the glass as well as run he floor.
He's young and seems like he's caught in the shuffle right now.
Jrue (when he's ready)
Buddy
Jones/whoever
AD
Vucevic
Pretty solid if you ask me!

If they put Vucevic on the open market, for 29 other teams to bid on, do you think the best bid is Asik and a second?
This is how people should ask themselves questions before wondering if X trade is possible IMO
Instead, we look at a guy who might be undervalued by his team and then just throw together some poo poo platter we are willing to part with and say, "Well, they don't want him anyway!"
But that's not how it works. If you are a GM and want to trade Vuc, you look at the best deal from every team interested and pick the best. And I highly doubt that would be the best one
