I have no clue what the dynamics of it would be, but the Pistons and Pels are talking sign and trade for Monroe.
The NBA Draft is right around the corner and the New Orleans Pelicans are looking at not only getting into the draft but will also be looking to make a splashy move that hopefully lands them a player they can use to give themselves an identity. Anthony Davis is the star of the Pelicans, but they need to build around him and the front office has a bold idea in mind.

The rumor is from Nakia Hogan at the TP. It also says he's expecting to get a max contract, which would be a fail on our part.
10-11? Sure. Max? Nah.

According to Nakia Hogan of The Times-Picayune, the Pelicans have discussed a sign-and-trade with the Detroit Pistons that would land New Orleans Greg Monroe.

Several teams are expected to show interested in the 6-foot-11, 250-pound Monroe who averaged 15.2 points and 9.3 rebounds while starting all 82 games last season.
Among those teams could be the New Orleans Pelicans

To be fair, the next paragraph in nakia's article says:
quote:
While the Pelicans, with about $7 million in salary cap room, don't appear to have enough cap space to sign Monroe, a source said the team has made some initial inquiries to the Pistons about the possibility of working out a sign-and-trade deal.

Oops. But yeah, he's not worth max money, and I still like the idea of Ryno/AD finishing games.

Jrue - Reke - Ryno - AD - Monroe
finishing your games. Why do I feel like we're going to be in trouble defensively...

Any trade will involve Ryan. Any trade will not involve Gordon.

Gordon/Anderson for Monroe
Sign Ariza
Sign Morrow
Buy late 1st and add another SF/PF with an offensive game to groom.
Starters:
Holiday
Evans
Ariza
Davis
Monroe
Off the Bench:
Rivers
Morrow
Draft Pick F
Withey
Ajinca
Also Gordon and Anderson could start next for Detroit next season and complement Jennings, Smith, and Drummond. I doubt Detroit will attract any nice FAs with their cap money.

I suspect you're right, but that doesn't stop me from hoping and praying. Looks more and more like we're stuck with his sorry contract.

Honestly, if we do a deal like that, Demps better have a deal lined up to dump Gordon in the process. I'd be calling for his head if we made those moves and Gordon is still on the roster.

Am I the only one who doesn't mind losing Anderson if it means we dump Gordon?

Depends on what we get back

I would not be willing to give up Anderson for the sole purpose of unloading Gordon, if that's what you're asking. Anderson provides a talent that a lot of teams wish they had. Gordon's contract is a serious problem, but it seems the issue has sort of become more of an obsession with some fans than it need be. The guy does have ability, so it's not like we're getting nothing in return. And, hell, we're halfway through his deal at this point.

I don't want to lose Ryno, especially if the only net gain is dumping Sandy. If our hands are forced and we need to move Ryno, it should be for a good asset, and should include moving Sandy.

Trading Anderson just to dump Gordon is bad.
Trading Anderson and getting a good starter in return would be okay.
A S&T of Monroe for Ryno/Gordon? I think you have to take it. A young big to pair with AD, Jrue and Evans. You've basically moved two bench guys for a starter and created cap space.
Didn't Piston say that Detroit had no interest in Gordon though?

Basically. He really just said nobody has interest in him, so Detroit doesn't either. He fits a need, but I think you have to sweeten the deal with Anderson if you want them to even pick up the phone. That's still just a ton of salary for Detroit to take back, especially in return for Monroe.
I think the Pels still have to throw Monroe a big offer, but I would be ok with it. Would you rather Gordon and Anderson for $23 million or Monroe and a 3 for $25 million?
It's a no brainer for me. If the offer is there you take it. Detroit may not even take a whiff though.

If this deal involves moving Anderson, keeping Gordon, and giving Monroe a max contract, then I say no.

Guys good, saw him play in the State vs. Tech game. Plays hard, real team player, very cerebral feel for the game..

Ryno is a rare get of a RFA on a reasonable contract. If you poach an RFA you almost always overpay by definition. The only thing that might limit the damage, is that a package of Ryno/Gordon could be desirable enough to Detroit that they wouldn't fight hard to keep Monroe, kind of like what happened with Ryno and Orlando.
