And I'm not sure I can even blame Monty for it. He might be the worst offensive player in the NBA.

I keep waiting for this guy to show me something because everyone on this board loves him so deeply and unconditionally, but I continue to be very unimpressed with this dude.

I'm starting to think this board is gonna have a tough time admitting we fricked up another off-season with this guy for a 1st round pick. I don't blame them either, this is a pretty depressing trend with this franchise.

something like 10-12 million a year for this guy after this season? man...I dunno. This guy would be a really good team's best bench big, that's about his ceiling from what I've seen of him.

Boy, that 1st round pick would be nice this off-season...

NB4 something about rim protection

Im not sure what you were expecting out of the guy when we acquired him? Where you expecting some offensive juggernaut? Please explain

His per 36 falls in line with his career numbers. He's doing what he's paid to do. He's the 22nd highest paid center in the NBA.

You dont have to resign him and that first pick is going to be worthless, especially since our FO cannot get a draft pick right unless they get #1 overall

Jimmy Butler just dicked us down for 33 points on 12-18 shooting and you want to up and bitch about asik somemore smdh

I was expecting a 7 footer who could handle a simple pass and not act like he just caught a smoldering hot bowling ball

He's not marc gasol

He's a defensive centric center. Has been since he entered the league

Asik or R Lopez in the offseason, who you signing, assuming Lopez goes for ~1.5 million less?

Solid rationalization.

Well forgive me for thinking we were getting a guy that was slightly more offensively skilled than a middle school girl

That's what he looks like on offense. A 7th grader just learning how to do a lay up. It's sad. He has to have some sort of record for number of shots being blocked for a 7 footer. I mean I didn't expect him to be anything outstanding, but jesus man. It's remarkable how bad he is.

Asik on offense has replaced Aminu as the top unintentional comedy producer on the roster

I'd take Lopez even if he was 1.5 million more

He's actually having one of his best seasons.

Career high in rebound rate, assist and a major dip in turnover rate while having his second highest usage rate.

RoLo

Asik all things being equal

I mean, I feel ya, the dude is not coordinated from an offensive standpoint. I dont mind him not having the capacity to score. We have enough players jacking up shots and our offense is close to top of the league. But the turnovers and bricked layups are frustrating bc they are empty possessions.

But he's 2nd in the league in rebounds per 48. He's 4th in off reb per game. He's playing defense. That's the guy they were expecting. Gasol came in averaging 18 ppg and only scored 8 on 3-9. Noah dropped 7. Those guys are formidable and he did well controlling the paint. They dominated the board but they have a legit front line.

I'm there, too.

But I'm a sucker for being able to make free throws while being able to defend without fouling as well.

He's SO bad on offense that if he gets an offensive rebound and doesn't pass it to someone else than it's pointless. He might as well not have gotten the rebound, because he's not going to do anything with it.

I'm not sure I've seen a pro player be so unaware of basic things like headfakes and any sort of understanding of how to score under the basket.

Like what the frick has Asik been practicing his whole life playing basketball? He's supposedly a hard worker on the practice courts, well what does he do then? Practice boxing people out for 4 hours a day every day? He sure as hell ain't working on his post moves.

Oh fricking cry about it

You people complain anytime someone starts a thread that isn't everyone agreeing with eachother the whole time. Get over it.

This dude the franchise just burnt a 1st round pick on has been less than stellar, it deserves to be discussed.

So start one thread and stick with it and maybe provide some numbers to substantiate your eye test

Robin Lopez doesn't work in Monty's defense, and that's the heart of the issue. We have a lot of flawed players who's flaws don't need that much to be covered. Some of it's better coaching, some of it's a more complete roster. If Asik was the 5th option on offense, like if we had a legit SF and dumping it off to Asik was a last resort, he'd have a lot fewer moments that piss you off. Have you people forgotten the OKC game already where he controlled the paint for the last 5 minutes? That's playoff series winning basketball there. The Spurs used Splitter heavily to get to the Finals last year and then won the Finals with Diaw. We're not going to get a complete center which means we need multiple guys to get it done like Ryno and Asik.

In the last thread someone started about this, the main point was you should over pay for wings, not centers. That's a good general philosophy, but it's not necessarily a realistic one.

1 Jimmy Butler and Koufos
2 Gerald Green and Asik
3 DeMarre Carrol and Koufos

#1 is what most of us would prefer all things being equal. But I really don't think Butler's available and your cap space gets tied up for 3 days trying to find out, which means you miss out on #2 and end up with #3. There would also be regular complaining if we were sitting at 10-20 with Noel and Payton. I'm not saying mistakes haven't been made, but I don't see how the team is significantly better today with other moves being made. Especially with this coach.

Well considering this is the first thread about Asik I've started this season I agree. That's pretty much what I've done.

Y'all act like I start these threads daily.

has there been a head coach in the past decade that has been given THIS much slack?

top 5 player, solid supporting cast, but still plays .500 ball?

is this really a legitimate possibility? is he a FA after this season?

3 DeMarre Carrol and Koufos
I'd take this over Asik and nobody. or Asik and Babbit/Salmons.

Monty is like the 3rd or 4th most tenured coach in the NBA (with the same team that is)

If that's not the craziest fricking thing you've heard in a while then you lead an interesting life

That some (although the number has become very, very small) still defend Monty goes beyond any sort of comprehension for me
