Haven't read the statute, but doesn't seem like this is any infringement on basic human rights. Complex human rights in a civilized country, yeah that sounds better.

They awarded the game before the law was passed. Immediately notified NC it would be a problem once the law was passed.

They aren't trying to dictate public policy, just saying they will not bring their events to a state with those policies (as many other big businesses did). They even gave NC a chance to reevaluate in light of their objection. Similar thing happened in Indiana.

It prevents any municipality in the state from adding LGBT individuals to anti-discrimination statues. Essentially legalizes discrimination against these people by taking away any legal recourse for remedy.

If you read up on what actually happened, it's more like public institution (NC legislature) dictated public policy to the city of Charlotte, which had previously passed an anti-discrimination law

All that happened here is that a private institution has taken its business elsewhere due to local laws.

I'll drop the $1000 on two tickets if I have a ladyfriend to go with me. Otherwise I'll spend the money on an upper middle-class callgirl to watch the game with me at my place (and then have sex).

Not even mad..that's a solid back up plan. I'll have to tell my wife or GF if they can't get their shite together I won't take either of them and I'll just hire a call girl

The city is short about 1,000 hotel rooms that the NBA is asking for. NBA will be in town next week to meet with the city.

Have they considered throwing airbnb listings into the count?

Metairie, Covington/Mandeville, LaPlace, West Bank? Surely there are hotels in those areas? Not a far drive to the SKC from those places.

Great question. Honestly, I'm not sure. I think since it would be difficult to nail down an exact number of available airbnb accommodations that it isn't taking into account for the inventory for which the NBA is asking. However, I'm sure if the city can get close to the extra 1,000, which I am confident we will, that short term rentals would be considered for making up the variance.
