New Orleans plans to sign Austin guard Orlando Johnson to a 10-day contract with injury exception, league sources tell The Vertical.

So, instead of a young prospect, we sign a 27 year old. Makes sense.

Meh. Orlando Johnson is 6'5 and shooting 46% from 3 in the D League. Seems like a decent signing to me. Not like youre gonna get anything major out of him anyways.

LMAO its funny to see people triggered over this.

Doubtful. This seems like a standard Demps reclamation project.

Talented Player (6th pick of 2nd round) that fell out of favor but has been working hard to get back (46% from 3 in 29 DLeague games this season).

Which young prospect that's worth a damn are you going to get?

Yup. Dell's MO written all over it.

We will see.

Turned Anthony morrow's career around, this could be a viable 3pt threat when we let eg walk.

I think Greg Whittington would ahve been a good prospect to kick the tires on for 10-20 days.

Went undrafted after bad ACL tear and academics left him out of the game for 2 years. Played well in Las Vegas summer league. Has been doing well in D-League. Averaging 14.4 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 2.1 steals per game and that's dealing with some injuries. Long athletic 3 and only 23 yrs old.

quote:

Though precious few roster spots may or may not be up for grabs in Miami — largely dependent on future trades and whether or not the front office wants to keep those without fully guaranteed contracts — Whittington fits the mold of players they have said they're looking for. Not only does his length and wingspan allow him to be a strong defensive player, he has shown solid ball handling and passing skills while getting more and more comfortable with his shot.

Whittington Turning Heads

But Dell is averse to evaluate and develop young players so let's get a 27 yr old guard to try and win games to move back in the lottery.

Checking out a 23 yr old SF and letting Ghee play more time at SG would lead to more losses.

ETA - My complaint is that it appears we are trying to find a backup for this season instead of exploring potentially higher upside options for next season.

He shot 38% as a rookie in Indy, but has been terrible in the NBA since then. Still, the Rookie season plus his current DLeague numbers suggest the drought in between might have been about role and minutes.

He also has a 6'11 wing span and weighs in at 220, so the tools are there for being a decent defender.

BDJ is only 23, but this does feel like a signing for need, not BPA.
