He has a pulse, can play and maybe just maybe be serviceable to help us out and maybe be a bench player. Again, stop being morose.

I'm at work so can't post Tweets, but per Marc Stein the Pels have told Stephenson that they will participate in his rehab wherever he wants to do it and are open to re-signing him once he's healed. Furthermore, Stein iterates that the Pels didn't want to release him but saw no other path with the current roster construction and with no set path to a hardship exception.

Like I said before, it seems to me it's an agreement like before. Other moves will be made whether it's outright releasing Goodwin down the road or other shuffling.

Lance did some good things and if you were in a position where he was a luxury off the bench that you didn't feel you had to play at the end of games, sometimes you need a sledge hammer instead of a scalpel.

Strange he is waived and Pels granted Holiday paid indefinite leave.

It's not strange at all. Lance is not guaranteed. Jrue is. Lance won't be back any time soon. Jrue probably will.

Keeping with the theme of The Advocate's coverage being WAY out in front of everyone else on the Pelicans, we got a solid article about the move:

Pelicans' decision to release injured guard Lance Stephenson causes stir in NBA

quote:

“Lance 100 percent understands this is a business move,” Stephenson’s agent, Reggie Brown told The Advocate. “He’s not happy about being injured, because he felt like he was getting better and was looking forward to turning the corner and becoming a valuable part of the team. So he’s disappointed he got injured, but it’s nothing he can control as he understands why they had to do what they did.”

quote:

“These guys want to play,” Brown said. “I just think even if it’s a personal matter, the exception should apply. There’s a human side to athletes. People look at them and see they make a lot of money, but they’re human and they have personal issues and personal matters.

“We talk about how family should be first, but here we have a family issue and someone leaving their job to take care of their family and someone gets penalized for it. I just don’t understand why the exception wouldn’t apply for any situation in which a player can’t participate.”

They included Barnes' thoughts, which seem to miss the target from their perspective:

quote:

Yet Brown insists there are no hard feelings.

He even said Stephenson could come back to New Orleans at some point if a roster spot were to be cleared by the time he was able to return to the floor. The seven-year NBA veteran signed with the Pelicans this offseason despite being offered nothing more than $100,000 and an opportunity.

“When we initially started looking for teams, there was no better situation for him than New Orleans and he really liked it there,” Brown said. “I don’t know what things will look like in two months, but I hope that situation still exists because I don’t think there’s a better coach for Lance in the NBA right now than Alvin Gentry.

“He was coaching him and teaching him some things and was helping him grow as a pro. He was doing things I hadn’t seen in the past and was maturing and buying in. He believes in coach Gentry and what New Orleans is doing.”
