Yeah, I didn't think that one through. With Thibs being fired, it meant Griffin was not under contract (which wouldn't fit the criteria), or would have just signed with another team, which is what we did.

Which begs me to ask...how are coaching staffs assembled? What I mean by that question is do you hire a guy for your guards, for your bigs, strictly shooting, defense? Also, how many can be on a staff, officially, at once?

Was reading the article corndeaux posted this morning and it talked about all the GSW - Phoenix connections including assistant Jaron Collins. He's been mentioned as a person of interest before and the Phoenix connection with Amin as the source would make Collins as good a guess as any.

Usually you have an offense guy and a defense guy plus someone who works work the guards and another that works with the bigs. More commonly in the nba you're seeing the head coach run the offense or defense and either getting an understudy or an additional development guy.
