Good article from Christian Clark on Kira Lewis interviewing his former coaches. TL;DR - Kira is scary fast, very competitive and coachable, and likes to watch game film.

His AAU coach sent him clips to watch for finishing in a variety of ways and
quote:

He went from getting his shot blocked two, three times a game to, I remember from January on, I can’t remember a time he got his shot blocked.

Another good quote from his AAU coach

quote:

“Me personally, when I look at guys, I look for one NBA attribute,” Underwood said. “To me, the speed was undeniable. I honestly don’t think he runs top speed. One time, he ran top speed, and it, like, scared me. I was like, ‘Don’t run fast like that. You’re going to split your head open against the wall.’"

If training camp starts Tuesday I'd guess Monday. For 1st round picks there really isn't much to negotiate with the rookie salary scale.

Maybe it has something to do with how the team projects the roster makeup going forwards 4 years and how Kira's contract should tessellate accordingly.

Can't imagine that he's done anything between draft day and now to reduce or inflate his stock. Maybe we haven't offered the full 120% and his agent is trying to negotiate as much as possible.

That's my best guessings

Someone told me he was going to play in the g league more than in the NBA.

I'm not sure he gets any time in the g league, and I actually think he might be the first guard off the bench for us, if not to start then definitely by the trade deadline.

They need to get him ready for next season by getting him plenty of experience. Redick is pretty much gone after the year and one of Ball or Bledsoe should also be gone.

From everything I've read about coach, you have to earn your playing time in practice. He's not going to put you in just because you're a high draft pick.

I don't know if Kira will be with the team or in the g league, but I don't expect him to play a whole lot immediately.
Maybe some garbage time minutes or end of qtr time. But nothing too meaningful unless be just completely wows everyone in camp.

I don't see us getting rid of Bledsoe since we specifically targeted him.

Lonzo is too much of a wild card to judge. From his play to his contract the situation could vary wildly.

I wouldn't rule out potentially signing Lonzo on maybe a 3 year deal and having a good 3 guard rotation, but I can also see us going forward with Bledsoe and Lewis if he starts flashing year 1.

Yeah, I'm not sure where the minutes will come from if NAW shows any improvement. There are 96 minutes combined at PG/SG

Bledsoe - 32
Lonzo - 32
JJ - 10
Hart - 10
NAW - 10

That's 94/96 minutes and it assumes JJ/Hart get minutes at SF. JJ and Hart both averaged 26-27 MPG last year, I'm not sure there are 30 spare minutes available at SF unless Ingram is better at being a small ball 4 this year.

I'm not saying Kira won't play, but we may need to see a trade of someone like JJ or Lonzo before there are any worthwhile minutes to go around.

Hart's minutes will be at SF. We have no one else behind Ingram.

I know most here want him to play guard, but the current roster just doesn't set up that way.

I think it’s a camp battle between NAW and Kira for minutes. NAW obviously had the advantage because of his age and experience but they are both learning a new system. One will play most nights, and the other will be on the end of the bench.

Why have we only had 1 real small forward in 15 years

Imo, knowing Lewis' makeup, I'd say it'll be a real dogfight between Naw and Lewis and I'd put them near even odds only because Naw has a year in the league. I think Lewis is naturally more talented.

JJ will get his minutes regardless because of his role. When we need shooting he'll be in. Who plays point with him more often will be the question.

And I can also see times where NAW and Lewis play together.

The thought probably is that Hart is going to get more than the 12ish minutes that will be left at 3, unless BI is going to play more 4 and that is going to open up more minutes at the 3.

Do we know if Stan typically uses a deep bench? I know he’s known to not necessarily trust young guys.
