He didn't seem unhappy but Demps warned that he was nervous, I'm sure doing a press conference in a non native language isn't fun. His slow and low talking reminded me of a brown haired Ivan Drago.

Demps did answer a question I had about the possibility to extend Asik now : it's impossible and we'll have to wait for him to become FA.

42's recap of the presser from an article on the details of the Asik trade.

quote:

* Asik was introduced with a 3 jersey
* Dell said the team both wants and needs Asik
* Asik is looking forward to the music and food in New Orleans
* The Pelicans team excites Asik
* Dell feels that Asik is a needed piece, and that he’ll fit in well. Both of these things make the franchise feel he is worth the risk of trading a protected first round pick for a player on an expiring contract.
* Asik is not eligible for an extension since he was signed to a 3-year deal, but Dell is confident that they can resign Asik in unrestricted free agency.
* Dell believes that Asik and Davis playing together will benefit both players
* Asik was the teams number one target.
*Dell did not want to show his hand about the teams’ next highest priority.

'Cause he does not know how to address it.

Do we have Birds rights?

Can we offer more than other teams?

I think we have bird rights. However, the only way we can offer more is to add the 5th year, which we will not do with AD's contract looming (and sure to include the 5th year).

Pretty sure they can have more than one 5 year contract. Limited to just one five year max contract, which Asik won't be getting unless he suddenly finds an offensive game.

He left out the harsh words Asik had for Dwight Howard

We do also have 7.5% raises vs. 4.5% raises, but no one is maxing out Asik. Gortat is probably comparable and he got $12 when he was the best center on the market. Next year's center FA market potentially has enough options to drive down Asik's price.

Pero Antic RFA
Brook Lopez Player Option
Al Jefferson Player Option
Anderson Varejao
Tyson Chandler
Hilton Armstrong
Roy Hibbert Player Option
DeAndre Jordan
Marc Gasol
Kosta Koufos
Samuel Dalembert
Nick Collison
Kendrick Perkins
Nikola Vucevic RFA
Robin Lopez
Enes Kanter RFA

This is true. I wouldn't be completely surprised if they offered him a deal similar to what Gortat signed this offseason (5 for 60), if he works out well this season.

Players want feel loved and a part of the bigger picture.

Must have been a big hit to his ego, signed a big 3yr contract to come in after being a bench player. Played exceptionally well and became one of the league's premier 'defensive minded centers' to only take the back seat to a superstar.

They might be able to get him for a little cheaper than that with all the other bigs on the market next year.
