Can someone tell me why Rubio and/or Rondo would be a better fit for this team than someone like Darren Collison?

Collison shot over 40% from 3 last year. Doesn't have the assist numbers as either Rubio or Rondo. But he could come a lot cheaper. No doubt his price will go up but last year he made $5 mil while Rubio and Rondo's are around $13-14

Rubio is an above average defender and was elite from 18-22ft last year. Sure he costs more but is a better passer as well. Collision is not a good defender. Rubio is also younger than Rondo and less of a head case compared to the other two.

better defender
better passer
worse shooter

i feel like collison would be a better option if you're trying to replace jrue and what he brings

Darren Collison isn't a PG. He's a small guy that can't defend well and shoots really well from 3. he's a very good backup PG for just about any team, but shouldn't be starting on a good team. Only way Collison would start for anyone is if they have a ball dominant 2 or 3, like Minnesota now has.
We on the other hand do not have any one capable of running a good offense from the guard position, nor have we since CP3.
You get Rubio, get some 3 and D guys at the 2 and 3 position and you let Rubio decide who gets open looks all game, which he is good at, as is Rondo. That's not who Collison is, nor is that Patty Mills.

Key word is fit.

I think you're right about Collison or a guy with a better version of his skill set (Beverly being an upgrade and George Hill as the best version of that guy) being a better fit than Rondo and probably Rubio.

If they're serious about point Boogie, spending big on a guy who needs the ball to be effective seems like a bad idea to me.

They certainly need some help at point, but probably a guy who is okay with running/controlling second units

Rubio is a past first guy that plays excellent perimeter defense. I'd even argue he's better than Jrue on both sides of the ball right now. Maybe not from 3 but that's OK. Frankly I think he's the perfect guy out there for this roster but that's just my opinion.

Couldn't disagree more based on what they have now and what they seem to be planning to do.

Adding a ball dominant pg whom defenses won't respect off the ball next to 2 high usage bigs, who are used to dominating the ball themselves, in an offense allegedly designed to emphasize big men as creators doesn't quite add up to me.

And I like Rubio. He's a good player. I would have gladly swapped him for Holiday if there Cousins trade had never happened.

OK perfect guy out there may be too strong to say but I still think he is a fit. I think he's better than Jrue from a fit perspective and will be half the cost. Plus the entire offense will not be Finch's style. There will be elements of Gentry's offense pre-Boogie and with that Rubio will thrive

Of course. They need some guys with off the bounce juice. But that doesn't necessarily mean ball dominant pg.

If you're talking about finding a guy to play with Cousins + Davis on the court at the same time, Rubio is an odd fit. Especially since Hill seems like he's locked in at the 3

And Gentry's offense is just as much, if not more, about cutting and off ball movement than it is about High PnR.

Jordan Mathews (Gonzaga) is on our summer league team

Matthews is 42% from the 3, rarely turns the ball over, and is a defensive nightmare for teams. He is a 6'4 wing who led Gonzaga with 85 3 pointers last season including the game winner against West Virginia in the Sweet 16. He choose the Pels over signing with Houston and Memphis. He is known as a player who can space the flood allowing and he fills a critical role with the Pels in shooting the 3.

He is a really good pick-up for the summer league.

At work, so can't post tweets but Brad Wanamaker is postponing any negotiations with his Euroleague team to try to score a NBA deal with the Pels or Celtics.

A little background.

He is a 6'4", 210lb 27yr old wing. Played 4yrs at Pitt under Jamie Dixon. Went undrafted in 2011. Has played in various leagues since including a stint with the Austin Toros (now Spurs) in 2012. Has been in Euroleague the last two years where he last year he average 16.7 pts, 3.1 rebounds, 4.6 assists in 33.3MPG.

He shot 38% from 3, 48% from the field and 86% at the stripe.

I doubt he'd get a guaranteed deal but maybe SL and camp invite at this stage.

The Celtics are trying to add Hayward and Paul George.

quote:

The Boston Celtics are pursuing an aggressive summer plan of sequencing the signing of free agent Gordon Hayward and relinquishing the assets needed to complete a trade for Paul George, league sources told The Vertical.

For salary-cap purposes, Boston wants a Hayward commitment before it can finalize a trade for George and secure the most dynamic free-agent coup in franchise history, league sources said.

For Boston, here’s the hitch: While Indiana believes Boston can offer the best possible package, the Pacers may be unwilling to wait until the start of July free agency on Boston’s timetable and could turn toward making a deal elsewhere for George, league sources told The Vertical.

Further down in the article going after Blake Griffin is Plan B if they can't get Hayward. With any luck the Jazz and Clippers will both fall far enough for the Pels to jump over them.

I also think the Blazers take further steps backward

What kind of deal would even get them PG-13 at this stage?

Bradley + Smart + Nets 1st?

I feel like too many teams are in pursuit of Rubio, and he will be gone before we have a chance to make a move on him, while we wait on Jrue.

Bledsoe might be our best trade bet.
