Offseason is boring AF, bear with me. I will downvote myself to start this thing off.

So I read a blurb on Twitter by Marc Stein saying that Brooklyn was listening on Mason Plumlee.

quote:

It’s unavoidably tantalizing to think about what the Nets might have gotten for Plumlee, had they actively shopped him before he fell out of favor — bearing in mind the two future first-round picks Denver extracted from Cleveland for Timofey Mozgov.

Some rival executives think the Nets might go ahead and explore the Plumlee marketplace anyway, in hopes teams remember his dogged play for Team USA the past summer more than his struggles to get on the floor under first-year Nets coach Lionel Hollins. Now, though, would not appear to be the ideal time to see what shopping him might fetch. …

And I’m hearing teams have indeed begun to inquire about availability of Mason Plumlee based on belief Nets willing to move young big man

So I said, "Hey, Id like that guy if he was the Pels center!". Young guy, very athletic, really showed some promise when he got minutes last season.

In 18 games which he say 30+ mpg (34mpg average)

15.1 PPG
9.9 RPG
1.3 BPG
66% FG

Not too shabby, though he is a shitty FT shooter a la Omer Asik. Word is KG mentored Plumlee, especially on the defensive end, too. I've been in love with his athleticism since college.

Now Brooklyn isnt going to just give away a young, cheap, promising center without a team taking on Deron Williams or Joe Johnson. In this scenario we will take on Joe Johnson and his massive, terrible contract, which will run up after next season. They will also throw us Sergey Karasev. Yes, Johnson is a little long in the tooth, but he has the offensive skills we covet and could play SF in the right lineup. Johnson can still shoot, appears to be in good shape, and usually doesnt have injury issues. Plus he is off the books after next season and we can go out and spend on someone that fits.

Could be interesting, maybe in a Alvin Gentry offense? IDK.

Cole comes back to backup Holiday
Anjica comes back to backup Plumlee
Johnson becomes your starting SG or SF in some lineups
Anderson becomes your punch off the bench
Use MLE to supplement SF position
Plumlee is athletic BEEF next to AD23

TL;DR Trade Gordon/Evans to the Nets for Joe Johnson, Mason Plumlee, and Sergey Karasev

i like plumlee a lot, but not if it nets Joe. that's just too much of a cap killer.

eta: but I upvoted for conversation

Im no cap expert, but it's pretty even money going back and forth. I would say it doesnt change our cap situation but dont take that as gospel

I would not even answer the phone if I knew this would be discussed. Unless they were talking about 1st picks for this season or something

Don't want anything to do with Joe Johnson.

we'd be so dead at SG. You're giving up two starters for a center and letting Asik walk for nothing, do not like the idea at all.

I saw that earlier and was thinking a little bit differently. They want to dump Jack too. I still think Gordon is a good fit for the Knicks, if you can get any asset out of them for Gordon, send that asset for Plumlee plus take back Jack.

Define "starter"

Evans and Gordon were both forced to start because of injuries

Joe Johnson is still a good player and is a NBA starter. Not sure how we would be dead at SG when Evans isn't a shooting guard. Obviously johnson is not worth $24m per season, but he expires after next year anyway. One year of Joe Johnson, a few years of Plumlee at less than $2m per

I realize people see Joe Johnson and think Omgz no

I'll agree with Evans, but a healthy EG starts on 75% of the teams in the NBA

I'll be honest. I've seen you post and you're relatively in touch and good but this trade would be idiotic and downright detrimental

That draft makes me sad. I'd take any C in the first round over Asik.

Alex Len
Nerlens Noel
Steven Adams
Gorgui Dieng
Mason Plumlee
Rudy Gobert

Thanks for your honesty

What's idiotic and detrimental about it?

Break up some of that backcourt stuffiness and add pieces that seemingly fit better

I really just posted on a whim, thought it could be interesting. Not married to it by any means and these trade machines never come to fruition regardless

You take slight backcourt "stuffiness" and turn it into a dearth of talent in the backcourt. The league is absolutely more perimeter oriented now and we'd have 1 starter-level player on the perimeter.

Pels get:
Wilson Chandler
Harrison Barnes
David Lee
$22.9 leaving (8.5 expiring)
$24.8 coming in (all expiring)

Warriors get:
Ryan Anderson
JJ Hickson
$18 leaving
$13.9 coming in

Nuggets get:
Tyreke
QPon
$12.3 leaving
$14.4 coming in

or

Igoudala/Ezeli for Anderson/Qpon

I'm actually okay with Joe Johnson, but unlike most people I really get weary with trading EG. He's the only player on the team that can play significant minutes, give some defensive presence, and knock down 3s consistently. The issue becomes who do we have at the 3 if JJ is at the 2, and vise versa. I feel like the better idea would be to get rid of Tyreke and Ryno to get Plumlee and JJ, keep Ryno, and re-signing Asik
