I was assuming this the case, but it's good to see it in print

I like the cheap pickup. He has improved every year. His D league stats are actually a little better than the previously posted link.

assigned to Tulsa 66ers (D-League): 51 games: 19.0ppg, 4.5rpg, 6.7apg, Steals-3(2.2spg), FGP: 51.7%, 3PT: 38.1%, FT: 74.9%

I think this is the writer reading between the lines rather than having official info, but he seems to think Beli may be the back up point.

quote:

Shakur is likely to be the third point guard behind Chris Paul and potentially combo guard Marco Belinelli so his position is less than guaranteed minutes. But for what the Hornets are looking for, he's perfect. A fast versatile guard that works well in transition is a nice reserve option.

Perhaps more notable in this, though, is the clear sign being sent from New Orleans' Dell Demps. For years the Hornets have been reticent to use the D-League in any capacity. With Demps at the helm, hired directly from the Spurs where he was, among other things, general manager of the Toros, a new era seems to likely be in effect. Signing Shakur is at the very least an indication that the D-League is no longer beneath their use. Signing Shakur means that D-League players are no longer off-limits. Whether this bears out for the rest of the organization's strategic player development plans remains to be seen.

Well considering Jeff Bower didn't even know you could give partially unguaranteed contracts, I like this.

True, if Bower were trying to replace Collison we'd probably give an over the hill veteran minimum guy a 2 year deal with the 2nd year being a player option.
