Marco belineli finished with 32 and just hit a huge clutch shot for SA

Down 101-98 with 40 seconds left, Marco ran back from melo and hit a 3 at the top of the arc over him.
We should have made a commitment to solid role players like jarrett jack and marco belinelli and robin lopez instead of committing to a disgruntled, hurt EG.
They ended up losing the game, but it wasn't because of belinelli's 12-16 and 6-9 shooting.
That is where this team is lacking sorely. All good teams take care of their Mario Chalmers, ray allen, steve kerr type players if they can. JJ and Belinelli would vastly change this team if they in the place of EG or rivers or roberts or morrow or even Jason Smith.

Jack and Belinelli would be awful roll guys.
Pop, sure.

What? Jack is a great off the bench guard. Belinelli is a great shooter.

Cool what does this have to do with the Pelicans?

Hes shooting real close to 50% from 3 this year. Thats pretty damn good. I dont think Morrow is much worse though, they both stink defensively.

The hornets/pels seem to have a history of mistreatment of ROLE players. Marco belinelli has a higher career 3P% than ryan anderson. He averaged only 24.5 MPG and 29.8 MPG (highest in his career) while in NOLA. We got brow in 2012 right after belinelli left, so it wasn't like he was costing us draft status. Similar things can be said for Jarrett Jack (even if he did just turn 30).
Brian Roberts is averaging 15.3 minutes per game, anthony morrow - 15.8, darius miller- 10, rivers- 12.3, aminu- 25. Our 3 point shooting has been terrible and none of our role players are doing anything to help in that (or any) regard.
The role players on this team outside of the big 5 are just BAD. Morrow is okay, but he doesn't get up the amount of shots a 3 point shooter should get up and doesn't shoot unless totally open. Aminu is okay, but inconsistent.
The amount of lineups used is a product of bad role players. We'd be a lot better off if we had kept proven role players:
1.) rolo(who proved he can start unlike stiemer or smith) starting at C and playing 28 or so mpg with J Smith and Stiemsma gone
2.) JJ + Beli getting almost all of the role player minutes at the 1&2 with the occasional rivers or Miller prospect sighting.
This would also allow a lot of reke at the 3 and jrue at the 2 play with these great role players.
After the reke and stiemer signing, i was sure there was something in the works. This and dell being unable to move EG for a small forward is just not going to allow this team to go anywhere. EG is allowing a 70.8% opponent conversion rate at the rim on 1.8 attempts per game.
Our role players give us a volume of below average-ness while San antonio's gives them the highest 3P FG% in the nba. There's no veteran presence on this team. Are we even trying to win?

Do you honestly think this is the finished product?
Marco didn't want to be here. Didn't he leave in free agency?
This kinda shite isn't exclusive to our team. Happens to every team all the time.

It will never be a "finished product", there are always expiring contracts and people moving. How long will we have to wait until pieces fit? How many years?
Posted on 1/3/14 at 1:33 am to MrBlue105
I would say the spurs have had a pretty solid finished product for a few years now. Move a few role players in and out.
I think ultimately this year was test Gordon and see if he is worth keeping around. He likely isn't. So I expect him to be moved in the offseason for next to nothing to get him off the books. Get a center. Your core is AD, Jrue, Ryno, and Evans. Build around them.
That's my guess.

By finished product I don't mean you have the same 12 guys for 5 years. You have your core set and then you have flexibility to build around them. Dell has no flexibility because of Gordon.

When Belineli left, there was no shedding of tears on this board, as I recall. I do recall his performance for the team was disappointing.

No doubt they need better support players, but guard is not where they need help.
38% is terrible? Looks like its 5th in the league.
Injuries?
STATS
Thank god they installed the tracking cameras to tell us a 6'4" sg isn't a rim protector.
You just noticed this now? What's changed since October?

Weebie is that you?
Marco Belinelli was awful here. I want no part of the Belinelli in a Hornets uniform. He went from being coached by Monty to being coached by Thibs and Pop. Of course he's better now. Yet more evidence that Monty is inept.
Jarrett Jack was let go out of a courtesy to him. They knew we were going nowhere and Vasquez was likely to start at PG that year. It worked, he got a much nicer contract in FA. From a business perspective, this was dumb. However, Jack was a genuinely great guy so I can't even pretend to be mad they helped him out.
Criticizing the EG signing is very short sighted. 1) Phoenix forced our hand. 2) We let Gordon walk, we have nothing to show from the CP3 trade. 3) There was reason to hope that this kid would eventually get healthy again. 4) Assuming he would have gotten healthy, he would have been a more valuable trade chip when we lacked those assets sorely at the time.
