Monty et al couldn't scheme for Anderson/Asik and we saw that pair for something like only 200 minutes. Maybe they just wont work and there isn't an answer, but it's worth giving another shot with fresh eyes IMO

I agree. It was sort of baffling. Maybe Monty was just stubborn. I also think it's likely we see more of the Anderson signed originally with a quicker pace.

You also have to consider Anderson was probably still suffering some issues from the injury. We should get a better indication this season if the injury has dramatically changed his game.

He can also turn into a valuable piece come trade deadline.

not talking about anderson in perticular here, but heres a quote from zach lowes column today on kevin love

quote:

Gathering as many two-way players as possible seems like an obvious goal, but it has become even more urgent for front offices to do this as teams trend toward fast-paced, drive-and-kick offenses heavy on passing and 3s. It’s harder to be one-dimensional, on either end, when everyone is moving. Doing everything at a “B” level is the new NBA skill.

would you agree that ryan anderson is one-dimensional?

Of course.

But it's not that simple. From the same piece:

quote:

And you can build a functional defense with a weak spot on the front line. The Pacers, Grizzlies, and Bulls have stifled offenses with David West, Zach Randolph, and Carlos Boozer lurching around.

Ziller wrote about this sort of thing earlier this year- Draymond Green and the Rise of the "Situational" Superstar. Only the top few guys in the league can dominate wherever they are regardless of system. It's not as much about finding those B overall players, because they are rare. It's how do you turn a D into a C+? What can you do as a staff, a teammate, etc to mask the deficiencies of your teammates?

nope, not easy, at all
but i would hesitate to call west or randolph one dimensional. boozer is toast

granted ryno had a tough sled this past year, but he brings nothing but his shot even when he is right. too much to cover up

I think Ryno will thrive with Gentry. Catch and shoot on the fast break, brah.

I think he will too

I also think the pels could get catch and shoot at another position for less than 8MM a year, sign a real backup to Davis, and draft a good player at 18 (had they done a ryno/asik swap).

I would hesitate to call West, Randolph, or Boozer (especially) much better defensively than Anderson. Yet those 3 featured on great, great defenses.

quote:

he brings nothing but his shot even when he is right. too much to cover up

First, his shot and its threat affect entire defenses, a very useful skill. Second, "too much to cover up" is demonstrably false.

But at this point, you're out on Anderson. That's fine. Im just not going to continue here.

i would like to not be out on Anderson
he's been by far the best thing about this team not named Davis since he got here

I just think the team has evolved past him and now desperately needs to use his salary and minutes to get more coverage on the court on both ends. ball stopping on offense and not defending his position are making him less and less valuable
