It can get stretched though.

It's an option, but I'm not sold on it. I'm afraid Demps would use the flexibility to overpay twice for an RFA ala Tyrec.

Nah. Unless its real cheap and essentially single year deals with team options after every year, no thanks.

And I think the first move is: trade Tyreke Evans. After that we can see.

That's what I'm talking about.

I'd like to see the defensive efficiency splits before and after he went down. I know Lowe mentioned the "last 2 games" for Asik/Davis prior to last night and how the defensive efficiency was worse, but I wonder if that trend started when Gordon went down.

I'd also like to keep Asik and Ryno. But would be okay with moving Ryno, if it meant getting a good SF back.

Outside of maybe asik (if we gauge what he will be demanding as a FA), I am all for this.

We need another legit star on this team and it is clear we don't have one in the making.

Holiday has the skillset to do it, he's a top level defender that can drop 20/10 on any given night, I just don't know if he has the mentality because we don't see the 20/10 Jrue often enough.

Part of the Reke problem is enabled by Jrue. He defers to him way too much. I'd like to see Jrue be a little more selfish.

1. Keep Davis and Jrue, get rid of the rest of these bozos
2. Get a new GM and head coach. Sign new better players.

Only works on PS4 games. Also, I'd keep Ryan Anderson and Omar Asik. I think Rivers becomes a solid bench player in a year or two.

He was progressing ok last year but this year he's looked terrible playing in a role bigger than his ability. We'll see if he can get back to improving now that Mekel is here and he doesn't have to "run" the "offense" any more.

The time for some real evaluation will come in January-ish. I mean I could see them making minor trades with Salmons/Withey and the like after the 15th. But I think come January as we have 30+ games under our belt and the trade deadline approaches, we will need to revisit this.

I think the first move is trading Tyreke and Austin if they are at their current level of production. We aren't going to be able to move Gordon.

I would rather any decision on people like Ryno be made after the season (especially since we may havea new GM and Coach).

He's been good this year and I still just don't see that gear for him on offense. If his jumper isn't falling, he has nothing else in the bag.

He's a 3rd banana right now. There's nothing wrong with that. And he can still improve like a Mike Conley.

ATL, seems like stretching Gordon is an option, but would it make more sense to either let him fall off the books and/or trade him before the deadline next year? ETA: The 2016 deadline.

Assuming there is a new regime this offseason, what would be most beneficial, flexibility-wise, to the new coach and/or GM?

I've thought about that a lot and I think we should just keep him. I'd rather him be off the books after a year than on it for a little bit for several.

at this point i don't see any reason to stretch him. and next year there's always the possibility of actually getting some value back for him.

Here's the problem with waiting for 2016, that's the year AD gets paid. Even if you don't have anyone else on the team but Holiday, Evans, Davis, Asik, and Ryno AND the cap goes to $80 million, you still only have $6 million in cap space. That does assume Ryno and Asik both get around $12 million, but even if you get them for a little less you still don't have much cap space.

One caveat to this is that the reporting on the 2016 salary cap figure has been pretty fuzzy. I've seen anywhere from $80-$95 million. So a best case scenario of you getting Asik and Ryno for $10 each, and the cap goes to $95, then you have about $21 million in cap space. Although that's not nearly as much as it sounds, it's about $13 million in 2012 cap dollars.

So there's a chance waiting for 2016 can really pay off, but there's also a chance you'll be tapped out and unable to sign a starting level FA, which you would have the ability to do by stretching Gordon and dumping Rivers in 2015.

His extra on the books is practically irrelevant. Once you cross the cap you're limited to your annual exceptions anyway and since we'd have freshly crossed the cap it would take multiple years of lopsided transactions to get to the tax line. If we stretch him and sign a Green for $9 million this offseason, the only place it hits is Benson's bottom line. Now that could be somewhat of a factor as part of me thinks Salmons only got $2 million instead of $2.7 million and becoming a bigger trade chip because with Asik's balloon payment the player payroll had reached dangerously close the the kind of round figure Benson would throw out as a spending limit, $75 million. But outside of Benson mandated spending limits, there should be no actual affect on the GM's ability to pursue players by stretching Gordon.

Would it be legal to tell EG's agent that if he opts out, we would re-sign him for 4 years at 7 million per year? Perhaps make the 4th year a team option? I don't want that to happen, but can ownership and a player collude like that?
