I think so. Especially when you factor in his aggressiveness, movement without the ball, etc.

Yes. He's far more confident and has way more bag than Trey Murphy

Shooter maybe. Better basketball player - no. But its hard both are very different types of shooters and players.

He definitely has a quicker shot.

He's also more dynamic from the perimeter too in that he is much better than Trey at the dribble drive off the perimeter if the three isn't there.

I think Trey still is more accurate from the 4-point line, but yes, Hawk is a better shooter overall, because he can shoot off the dribble, while Trey is still mostly a catch-and-shoot sniper.

I will say if Trey can consistently hit from that deep- that changes things. Again Im happy we have both and their skills complement each other.

It almost looked like we had 2 teams out there tonight and both were better than hornets

Willy needs to recognize we need to lay with 3 shooters in the court at all times.

I think that recognition is coming in the form of Jose basically being a DNP lately.

It looks like, for the time being at least, they made their decision of Jose v. Dyson.

Hes not. You’re getting caught up in the hype. Trey is a better defender, draws more fouls, more athletic at the rim. I love Hawk but hes not better than Murphy right now.

And it's the right decision for the long term. Jose might actually be the better player today, but Jose is a lot closer to his ceiling right now than Dyson is to his. We need to continue to develop Dyson.

I agree but he needs to start showing some consistent progress on the offensive end to deserve minutes over Jose. Nights like tonight dont help.

Considerably so.

And Trey is not a great defender; Hawk is still a poor defender.

I agree that Trey is the much better player right now.

Lets be real here, Jose has surpassed his ceiling. I think what he is right now, is what he will always be.

We have to convince Dyson that you have to be aggressive on offense in the NBA.

Im not disagreeing on this point but don’t you think its crazy that we have to tell a NBA player (young or not) that he has to do that? Wasn’t his pops a player too?

I think Trey just hasn’t fully gotten his legs under him yet tbh

My worry is that that's just who Dyson's personality is. Like the fact that you are 6'7 and actively avoid dunking is weird and worrisome.

The majority of these reasons for Trey is due to his size. And Trey Murphy is a really good player. I'm not saying he's bad. Hawkins just has a skill set literally every team in the league wants.

What skills you ask?

Hawkins can shoot off the rub pick 3s, step back 3s, motion 3s, he has a pump one dribble in pull up, he can knock down shots with dudes in his grill, he's got a middy, and he's got a far more advanced shot selection than Trey. I don't see Jordan take many if any bad shots.

He can do all of that better than Trey and has a faster release and a better handle. That's he's bad on d is merely due to inexperience, he's a really good rebounding guard and has 4 stls over his last 3 games. He has active hands. He'll be average in a year or two max.

Again good points but Trey’s length and size is what makes him special. The fact Hawkins doesn’t have that also limits him a bit. Trey is just so versatile in todays nba. On offense and defense. Hawkins no matter what, wont be that versatile on defense. But the thing is both complement each other very well- similar to another duo in golden state.

The best player in the league at one point was was 6'2".

I'm not saying Hawkins is going to be steph, but at 6'5" he can do a lot of damage by simply rising over dudes with his quick release. Dudes don't come into the league this ready like he has. Trey is a year older with more league years under his belt and still doesn't have what Hawkins has offensively. It's not even close.
