How would getting top 3 pick in lottery change things?

Would that be enough to get us serious consideration in a J. Butler trade (kind of a Wiggins to TWolves type deal)? Would trading that pick plus Asik to clear cap space and bring in a Pu Pu platter of Redick and a David Lee type player be enough to intrigue CP3 to join (obv they'd all sign at same time).
Would CP consider joining and we KEEP the pick?
So much room, mates. So many activities if we win top 3 in the lottery

Trading a top 3 pick to shed Asik would be moronic

i'm gonna go out on a limb here, but i'm pretty sure OP is not stating we simply trade a top 3 pick to shed Asik and get nothing in return. We would get Butler in return.

The targets would be Butler and George and they would be possible but it also depends on which of the 3 picks the Pels get and who else gets the pick at 1 if say the Pels get 2.
I think the 3rd pick has far less value than 1 and a good amount less than 2. They land the first pick and I would say there is a 75% chance they get PG or Butler. Two? 40%. Three? 5-10%
I'd be really interested to see the possible targets if they land 3. I think they'd dump some contracts and then get a quasi All-Star type and a solid starter in return

I was thinking a 3-way deal to help us get Butler and she'd Asik for our top 3 and another couple firsts OR failing that trade the pick and Asik and get two good but not Butler caliber players in return (George Hill, Chandler Parsons caliber players, for example) because we need to make a run next year to get Boogs to re-sign and likely don't have time for our rookie pick to adapt.

He was right I'm being open ended, grumpy mate
I'd rather have two starters minus Asik than have Asik and the #3 pick since we need to make push for 2nd round next year to keep Boogs (at least perhaps).

Not gonna happen.

You have to stop saying "top 3 pick" as if all are equal
Your options with the first pick are vastly different than the third-- especially if teams like Boston and LA or even Philly are ahead of you

We're saying top three pick because that's the only kind we keep dude. I think just about everyone realizes that the 3rd pick of the draft is not as valuable as the 1st...
I'm praying for a top three because it's about 3x's more likely that getting #1 overall. It makes these hypothetical's a little more plausible.

I'd also argue that pick 3 is more valuable this year than in season's past. This a deep draft with no clear cut #1.
Markelle Fultz, Lonzo Ball, and Josh Jackson are all supreme talents. I think the 3rd pick would still have good value, maybe not for a Jimmy Butler, but shite, why not just keep the pick? Any of those three would fill a need

They are not all that different.
There is no clear cut favorite at #1, and if you ask me, watching how Ball get dominated in the tournament, to go with his irritating off the court crap, as well as the fact that Fultz played on a team that sucked, i don't understand the hype for these guys, and is probably why there is no clear cut #1 pick, not b/c all three are that good, but b/c there are major flaws with all 3.

That's not really accurate. The odds for the #10 spot winning are:
1 - 1.1%
2 - 1.3%
3 - 1.6%
While the odds of getting the 3 spot are significantly higher than the other spots, they all are similar in their unlikeliness.

Semantics, but the odds of getting a top 3 pick (4%) is about 3x more likely than getting #1 overall (1.1%).

Gotcha. Probabilities were always a part of math class that made my eyes glaze over. Apologies to SCLSUMuddogs

Regardless of 1-3, any Pels fan would be esctatic if we get to keep our pick as it adds an asset we shouldn't have. I think that is why everyone references if we get a top-3 pick.
The funniest part of the entire trade is that we have better odds of getting a top 3 pick than Sacramento does.

Wellllll, you get a top 3 pick instead of the kings. And probably let Jrue hit the curb. Lonzo and Laver show

If we got that pick, my lord. Do any and everything to get Josh Jackson
Posted on 5/10/17 at 7:34 am to LlyodChristmas
Even if you have a possibility to draft in position of need - PG (Fultz, Ball) or SF (Jackson, Tatum) - Dell probably will trade him
But yeah - love those prospects

The way I see it is the NOLA did the NBA a solid by being able to quickly get the ASG done and without a hitch. So, if you believe the lottery is rigged in anyway they owe us and will get us a top 3 pick!
