re: How hot do you think David Griffin's seat currently is?

I thought you wanted a development year bunch, or that is what I seem to remember. You didn’t want to push for the playoffs. Now all of a sudden it’s do or die with the roster?
The weird Covid season was an uncontrollable setback too. It’s not like they’ve given assets away or anything. Still loaded to make moves, but the opportunities have to be there huh?

How bad are they really?
We've blown I think 18 games (maybe more) while have a double digit lead, by far most in the NBA. Their biggest issue is that last 4 minutes of a game, and that takes time/experience to develop. Even Zion has a hand in it, he's had some bone headed turnovers in crunch time.
If they already knew how to close out a game, this team is in the hunt for a top 4 seed this season.

I've never said its do or die with this roster. Ever.
I've said this team has to start looking like a legitimate playoff team, with a roster that is starting to make sense, by next year's trade deadline.
If it isn't then his seat will start to get very hot. I didn't say he would get fired. But if they aren't in the playoffs next year then Griffin's seat will be on absolute fire going into Zion's 4th year. He will HAVE to have some success that offseason or he's canned.
I don't see how that take is even remotely misguided. Seems pretty reasonable.

IF you believe another failure year next year gets him fired (10), then you have to think its higher than a 1-2 right now.
I guess I view it as if his seat is hot right now, there has to be some sort of chance he can be fired this offseason. Since I think there is no chance, then ultimately his seat right now has to be very low IMO. I don't think the # can really start going up at all until the start of next season. Start of 1-4, and that's when it starts for him, if you will.

Then why start a thread about the GM being on the hot seat lol
Cause your impatient. You not a big picture guy

quote:shite, if Ball and Hart get crazy offers that we should not match, I agree we should not match, but I also would say I don't see an avenue where we're any better next season than this season unless I'm misunderstanding how much cap space this would give us.
and re-signing Ball to anything remotely what he will be looking for is starting to seem like a really bad idea

Right. I had it at 4 which I consider to be sort of lukewarm. Not hot at all, and people are freaking out about it.
It is not a Zero. Its pretty impossible to be at zero with a team that won't make the playoffs with a star of Zion's wattage.
If he has a bad offseason or a bad start to next season, its approaching 5-6 which I consider to be starting to heat up.
Team doesn't make the playoffs again I would consider it at an 8-9 which is HOT but not yet fired...but on extremely thin ice.

To talk about it, to gauge where the fanbase is.
Again, I've said repeatedly that I like Griffin and think he has made more good moves than bad.

Wrong

3 at most. I'd think SVG would have a much hotter seat than Griffin, but they'll chalk it up to lack of time to get his system down and try again next year.

The problem is Griffin has sort of done that. Instead of confidently picking a path, he has wishy-washily tried to tread the line between tanking and going all out. He hasn't tanked. He hasn't "gone for it all"...but he has "gone for the playoffs".
He added assets. The only bad thing Griff has done is overpay Adams. “But what about Bledsoe shoulda kept Hill!”
Could you imagine if Bledsoe actually didn’t suck arse and y’all kept Hill? Nobody saw Bledsoe being this bad other than probably some Milwaukee fans.

It is pretty clear that MIL added a pick onto the deal in order to get us to take Bledsoe. And now we will likely have to send a pick out to move him.

This entire board had convinced themselves Bledsoe wasn’t much that much worse than Jrue.

It’s almost NFL draft
Then training camps
Then NFL season
Remember Griffin drafted Zion

Zero is impossible for any team not in the playoffs for consecutive seasons in professional sports, in my opinion.
There has to be SOME level of heat, even if its minor.

And historically speaking, he wasn't

Zero. Anyone thinking otherwise is kidding themselves.
Griffin's track record is hit or miss with the pels.
Hits
AD trade
Jrue trade
Naji Marshall
Redick trade
Misses
Bledose vs Hill
Adams trade
Adams extension
Melli signing
Not trading Redick sooner
Too soon to tell
Hayes/Naw vs Hunter
What he does with Ball/Hart
It's all going to come down to how he uses the warchest imo. If he fricks it up like Ainge, he's done. If he cashes in and hits, he's golden.

We will find out this off-season on this imo.

Adams and Bled havent worked out...but we arent tethered to them very long. Either we will trade them or be done with them in another year or 2. At that point, our promising young core should be more mature and more attractive for FAs to fill in whatever gaps.
As long as Zion and company like Griff, he is safe for another few years. If the team does not make significant strides, the SVG will prob be gone and Griff will stake his future on his replacement

Yeah, I don’t think his seat is hot at all tbh and we know Griff is a good salesman.
I think his seat starts to get hot after next season if we don’t actually make the playoffs.
