Rockets are far sale, Rockets president Tad Brown announces.

Tad Brown said the timetable is "sooner than later" but said no rush because management team is in place.

Forbes in February put a valuation on the Rockets at $1.65 billion. Alexander bought the team in 1993 for $85 million.

I don't think this really affects the Rockets trajectory at all unless someone like Vivek buys them. But they are selling high with Morey and Harden recently extended and CP3 just coming in, so anything that increases team valuations is good for other teams like the Pels.

I think the owner is probably trying to cash in at a high point and avoid paying a huge luxury tax bill in the future (I think Harden is scheduled to make like 46 mil in one season toward the end of that extension).

As much as I would want that, NFL rules prevent it since there is a pro team in Houston already.

That's why there is a screwy ownership situation with the same family owning the Nuggets and Rams, with the father owning one and the son owning the other.

NFL rules would prevent an NFL team owner from buying a team in a different spot unless it was in the same city? Did not know that....

funny how ownership stability is always one of the hot takes on why a franchise can't lure a super star...

It is more about not having owners shite in each others' markets.

If there is no NFL team in that market, then any owner could buy it. Ex - any NFL owner could buy th Trailblazers, Kings, Raptors, Grizzlies, Spurs, etc.

If there is an NFL team in that market, they can't own buy it and retain their NFL team. Ex - Stan Kroenke couldn't own both the Denver Nuggets and St Louis Rams because of the Denver Broncos, so he had to pass one to his kid.

The Rockets have a non-relocation agreement with the city of Houston until 2033.

So sorry to disappoint you

Is there anyway we could just buy their roster? Half of them were already Pels at some point anyway...
