I just don't value a late pick in this draft enough to give up one of our best players. Sure, that list looks long, but what about the ones left off? Most picks that late do NOT pan out. Trading a proven player for a small chance at decent just seems dumb.

2) Next year is the LAST year on his contract and if you are willing to give Vasquez the 4-5yr/30 million dollar contract he's going to command, you're insane. Get something for him while you can.

Not really. It's technically the last year on his contract, but we can give him his QO in 2014/15, which is only ~$3m. I like what Roberts has shown us, but if we don't get a good offer for GV, there's nothing wrong with paying him $5m over the next two years as one of the best backup guards in the NBA (assuming we find someone to start over him). With his dirt cheap contract, I personally think he's worth more than a late first and would rather use him in a deal for another player.

Fair enough.

For me, GV will never have this much value again. As the team gets better, he wont see this many minutes and he wont be the primary creator. Sell high if the right deal is there. Regardless, I dont think they will get a first for Vasquez anyway.

Assuming no team offers him more than that as a RFA.

You dont deal Vasquez for a bag of balls, but he's an asset, not a core piece. They have to at least explore what the market is.

i keep seeing phrases implying that we'll trade gravy for much of nothing. we will not do this just to rid ourselves of him or just to experiment with a player. if gravy is traded, it will be for the better.
i believe he'll be traded cause those millions he'll want probably wont be available for him. this summer's acquisition may be gravy's enemy salary wise.
