Can any of the cap gurus answer this??

I understand he is a RFA, so I'm not sure what we would be able to offer, but he would be a perfect fit for this team, especially with Erman on board (who has developed him in Boston).

Unless we make some trades we'll likely have the $5.4 million MLE to work with. I wouldn't consider Crowder much more than an MLE level player, but the general feeling is Boston likes him so it would be a risky move to go after him. Since he's an RFA, if we make him an offer Boston can take up to 3 days to match, so if they do match then you've lost 3 days to use the MLE on someone else. For that reason alone I wouldn't expect us to go after him. Kind of the same reason I'm not that worried about keeping Cole even though many started freaking out because he went to a Cavs game last week which clearly meant he wants to play with LeBron again. Teams typically have better things to do with their cap space than chasing bench level RFAs.

Only way I see Boston not matching what we can afford to give him is if they land a stud SF in free agency or in a trade. Otherwise, we can't pry him away.

Not a SF, but was hoping Christmas frim Syracuse would fall to us. But his stock continues to rise and is now in early 2nd.

I'm not that enamored with Crowder. He's a solid bench forward, but we need a starter.

.414 from the field and .316 from 3 isn't what we're looking for. Plus, he is restricted and Boston wants to retain him. Time to look elsewhere.

I think he'd compliment Pondexter well, but I don't think it's going to happen.

ATL needs to start a MLE thread that encompasses all positions. Would like to know who is out there that we can actually get with the MLE that would make this team better.

Wings look like they will cost too much, which means Q/DC/Reke at the 3.

I don't really see what other position besides 3+D SF that would be an upgrade with out moving parts.

PG? No
SG? Not while EG is around
PF? Nah but ryno getting moved opens the door for bass/wright
C? Ajinca has it locked for cheaper

An SF like dudley/dunleavy/Green(s) etc make the most sense.

I agree with you for the most part, but I'd still like to see who we could realistically get with the MLE.

The Dudley/Dunleavy/Green pu pu platter is underwhelming, but my guess is that is the direction we go in.

The issue is that what we really need at SF will require moving parts. We are not getting a starter at SF with the MLE. If we are, that's clearly our weak link.

We need to move Anderson and/or Evans for a quality SF, then we can use the MLE to bring in a backup in the void created by moving them.

I would prefer to go backup C with the MLE and maybe bring Babbitt back and take a flyer on another SF with the bi-annual. Off the top of my head - Jeremy Evans, Wesley Johnson, Alonzo Gee, Landry Fields.

Then you got those 48 mins distributed amongst Q-Pon, Reke (when we go 3 guards), Babbitt, and let's say Wesley Johnson. I am fine with that.

At center, you bring in a Branden Wright or Seraphin or Bioyombo or Baynes to compliment Asik. You continuously explore Ryno trades and probably pull the trigger at some point. But I think you can get a better backup center in this class with the MLE than a SF.

agreed

ajinca is gone...someone will overpay him, and i am confident it will not be the pelicans. biyombo would be a solid double to the gap, if we get lucky it will rattle off the wall and be a triple

Man, that's kind of rough.

I mean, some position is going to be your weakest. If you had Q-Pon playing 28 at SF, Reke getting 10 and either Wesley or Babbitt getting 10, I think you can do a lot worse.

The other thing you can do is go 3 bigs. Would AD, Ryno, and Branden Wright be the worst thing in the world for 5-8 mins a game? Would be fine on offense, and on defense you always have a rim protector there to spot Ryno, even if AD is on the perimeter. Ton of length to get into passing lanes, etc.

I would love to see that.

Sure, we could always do worse, but we undoubtedly could do better.

I just don't see that being a real possibility. Ryno is way too big a liability on D. Who is guarding the SF? AD?

Look the SF thing is not ideal, but I would definitely prefer an upgrade of some kind there. And I'm willing to bet Gentry would as well.

they took draymond green with that pick...

Wes Johnson actually wouldn't be a bad option if we go"cheap". He's athletic/very solid defender/has been competent shooting the 3.

He could thrive in gentry/ermans systems imho.

What about Ed Davis? Do you think he'll go for more than the MLE?
