Love it. Keep the man happy. Reasonable price tag. Just one more reason for the team to be motivated this year to do something special.

Not a bad deal.

Good on griff for making it a 2 yr deal and not longer.

New deal ties McCollum to Pels for four years and $133M.
under market for a player of his skill level. codifies the trade from last year and sets the team for a 4 year run with Ingram (3 yrs left), zion (6 yrs left), CJ. Murphy has three years left on his rookie deal, dyson 4 years. multiple surplus 1sts to trade plus midrange salary in graham, Hayes, temple. Jonas 2 yrs left and tradeable

Pels are set up now. Time to go get it done

amazing recovery by the front office

I don't understand why they needed to do this now. He has never played with Zion and this is the first season he will ever play PG full time. So much could go sideways.

At worst, he will be a solid rotational guard. So I don't believe he'll ever go negative value. But he is a number 3 on the team, will hopefully be 4-5 in two seasons.

I don't understand drafting a guy top 10 and then signing a guy to play the same position for the next 4 years. So Dyson Daniels can never start for this team (once we extend Jones). He will get minimum minutes and we all wonder why he is a bust..

I have never agreed with a single thing that you have ever said. It’s actually pretty impressive.

We are making really smart, stabilizing moves.

A market like New Orleans has to do it now because if they let him play out this year he’ll be an expiring. There’s no way he agrees to 2 years next summer so you either do a 3 year extension which puts you in the same place anyway . However, if he has a good year there’s a good chance he decides to play it out and go to free agency.

Once that happens he can always leave and it’s almost certain the Pels will have to give him good money over 4 years to keep him. When have you ever seen a coveted unrestricted FA sign just a two year deal? So with this new deal CJ needs to give you 3 good years and if his play starts to slip you’ll have a 32 million expiring that you can package assets with to swing a big trade in year 4. If you don’t do this deal the 2 most likely scenarios are CJ walks for nothing 2 years for now or you have to pay him in the range of 120 million over 4 years and instead of hoping he can play well until he’s 34 you’re hoping he can hold on to 36 and if it turns negative you’ll have an albatross for most of BIs and Zion’s primes.

exactly
plus...he pretty fricking good and is the team adult. He knows what winning looks like. He knows what sacrifices have to be made. He knows what a well run team looks like, and will demand that everyone pull their weight

players like him are rare and very expensive

So then don't make him full time, you still get kept a 20/5/5 guard who was a net neutral to barely net negative at worst defensively.

This now gets you 3 years of figuring out contenders/pretenders instead of 1.

And that's fine. If he's #4 or 5, that means Dyson Daniels, TM3, or Herb have become extremely elite offensively. Right now he's at worst your 3rd best option, with the skillset to be the best on some nights. This isn't a Bosh situation or Love situation for Lebron/Dwade or Lebron/Kyrie.

Because this allows stability and flexibility.

You said so yourself. At worst he's never have a net negative value. This allows you to ship him off in 2 years to get something in return (if dyson is the real deal), as opposed to letting him walk and you not being able to use the money for anything.

fans that don’t understand this drive me crazy. Once a guy is under contract he’s a salary slot holding money in escrow. If you lose him you lose the salary slot

It’s why the warriors took Russell for Durant and then turned him into Wiggins. All it costs is potentially some tax money

Because you're only thinking of it in one direction, "sideways"

If things go extremely well, then he'd cost a shite ton more, that's the other side you're not factoring in.

They aren't remotely the same player.

So we shouldn't try to have more than 5 good players?

I love it. He's not a star that will himself attract eyeballs and opposing fans but I also like that about him. Kinda like BI. His teams' fans love him and know he's earned it.

Explain to me why he cannot start? Didn't Lillard and CJ start together or are you pigeon-holing players into a specific position based on your pre-conceived ideas?

Fantastic deal, and actually pays him less than his current deal, love that it’s only 2 years to minimize risk.

Because Herb has to start

In a world where we can find 96 minutes for guards, we can't find 30+ for dyson daniels if he's truly that good of a 2-way guard?

Who else gonna steal the minutes, Jose? Kira? Devonte (who will likelye get traded too)?

You’re right about the all star snubs but he’s like literally the Demario Davis is the NBA. Great person and player who doesn’t always get the accolades he deserves.

Do you follow the saints? B/c this makes no sense. Davis has been voted to the all pro team three times. That’s the highest accolade you can get in the NFL outside of being the MVP or defensive player of the year.

CJ is a good guy and a good player, but he hasn’t made an all star team or all nba team.
