all he has to do is sign for 3 years, max that out, and then get it on the back end

Also, see what pulling the dick move did for Lebron's "marketability."

You can't compare the Lebronathon to this.

He and Lebron are best buds, and they run with the same crew.

He, Melo, Bron, and Wade are all boys....they went to super teams, now CP wants to join the fold and get a piece of the action

so, in response, the NBA created the "carmelo rule," which creates a deadline (i think it's 12-31-11) wherein a player has to be dealt to keep this type of deal possible

I thought it was wiped out all together. The way I read it is that extend and trade only adds 1 year to the current deal. I think Bird Rights kick in after 6 months, so any trade would have to be a verbal agreement on Paul extending.

IIRC, that's due to the way CP3's contract is structured, as he has a player option for 2012-2013.

A player who is actually in the final year of their contract would be able to extend 2 years, not just 1.

again, this fricks the teams like the hornets, b/c instead of all year to deal cp3, we have 4 weeks

And I really think CP3 will be more willing to extend with other teams the closer we get to that deadline and he sees quite a bit of money about to disappear. Talks are heating up but I see little reason to rush anything.

Here's a question...

If he's still around when the season starts and gets hurt between December 25 and December 31, does he still opt out of his contract this coming off-season?

Depending on how bad the injury is, it may be better for him to stick around for one last year than to hit the market while teams are questionable about what he's able to do.

I perosnally wouldn't allow the opportunity to present itself for him to get injured. If he isn't traded before the season starts, I would bench his arse in order to ensure we get maximum value.

Not sure if this has been covered- if so my apologies.

He will not extend with anyone. He loses money on an extension. 2 years 38 million or he becomes a FA and resigns w/ current team he gets 5 years/100 million. New team as a FA is 4/74. Same thing DWill is doing in NJ

if he was smart he'd just sign a 3-year deal and then max out the next contract

Pretty sure everyone knows that Hollinger.

Honestly I think one of the issues is Hornets want Wright, GS wants to use Bell.

That would be the dumb thing to do imo.

only cp3 knows how his knee feels, but if it's ok, it's worth it. unless he is on the retirement track, he'll still get another contract in 4 years
