This team will never contend for anything. Start with a coaching change and move BI and CJ. Build around Herb and Trey because they at least look like they give a damn. This city deserves better!

I would have to agree.
Young OKC team - can't beat
Young Celtics team - cant beat
Young Magic team - cant beat
young Minn team - wouldn't beat them right now
Can't beat older Denver, lakers or old Bucks team. wouldn't beat Dallas after they upgraded.

One thing i know, if you dont have 2 "dogs" who can score at will, it wont work.
IF Z develops a jumper, we have one. And the only reason i say that is b/c the light bulb went off and he is playing defense.
Herb, with his improved 3 shot and D, is a keeper, but isn't great at creating his own shot so i wouldn't put him in that category.

I thought we had one in BI. Mostly b/c of his all around game. But not the case when the playoffs hit and players begin to play defense, he struggles too much.

Trey, Hawk, Daniels etc = all good players but not all star level. Trey is a B+ player.
CJ is close to being on his way out.

Honestly not sure how to get this turned around. Putting 4 shooters around Z isn't the answer.

Yep, and the zion prime years are being wasted away. There’s one last chance to salvage it this offseason, but i wont hold my breath.

Do not be surprised if we get an ad 2.0 situation on our hands in a year or two from zion.

Unfortunately the front office will be too content with mediocrity to care until its too late.

Truly mind-boggling the front office cant learn from their mistakes in the past that lead to their last 2 franchise players wanting out.

The person most responsible for wasting years is Zion and that is not debatable.

The organization failed by coddling the fat baby instead of holding him accountable and by wasting assets and opportunities.

Zion will be 24 in July. He hasn’t hit his prime yet. He’s about to.

I just think this very common take by fans is completely inaccurate.

By all accounts Zion went to Nike Headquarters in Portland to do rehab because the team and Zion's camp weren't getting along. Aaron Nelson got fired because he was attempting to hold Zion accountable like a parent attempts to hold a teenager accountable.

The team and player were basically feuding. None of that sounds like coddling to me. And we all lost in that battle of wills that you seem to want to resume. Trying to break Zion clearly wasn't and isn't the path forward.

I think this is right. In fact I was told specifically by a person close senior management that Trajan had to go out to Oregon in person because Zion’s camp had basically cut off contact with the team.

Blame to go around but I think Griffin took the wrong approach with Z, trying to treat him like a wayward teen in need of an older brother. Z wasn’t interested in that and in fact it put him off.
Despite All the rhetoric pro basketball teams aren’t a “family.” The best way is to be upfront with what your expectations are and treat them like men. If they can’t meet their responsibilities find ways to motivate them or replace them…

There was no tone set from the organization from the beginning . leading up to the draft, they did nothing but praise him bc they were worried he’d spurn them . They let his dad talk at the intro presser . They let him get fat, he got injured, let his step dad call shots he got injured . Sent him home in the bubble to protect him . There is example after example .

Zion carries the most blame and again to me that is not debatable but the organization that writes his checks did not hold him accountable or failed miserably and then started writing him bigger checks .

All that said something clicked for the first time in his pro career the 2nd half of the season and we have to hope and pray he will get to that and work ti develop his game .

What were they going to do, tell him he didn't meet the weight criteria they set so he couldn't play basketball to continue his rehab and get back in time for the playoffs? Oh wait, that's exactly what happened last year. You think money is a motivator? They put weight clauses tied to team void clauses in his contract. We have literally seen them fail repeatedly attempting to do what you are sure will work.

Don't get me wrong, do I think someone like Pat Riley and the Miami Heat could pull off a Tough Love routine with Zion. Yes, but not everyone can accomplish that. I would think most organizations would like the gravitas that Riley and the Heat have to pull it off, and most that tried would crash and burn like the Pels did.

But there's more than one way to skin a cat, and from what we saw this season, the new approach appeared to be working. We won't be able to confirm that until next fall when we see what kind of shape Zion comes into camp in, but I guarantee you that the current cast of characters cannot successfully employ the methods you are asking for.

Look if this season was all about Zion turning the corner, taking his conditioning and leadership seriously and learning from past embarrassments. Honestly, I can stomach this shitty season.

Because if he gets serious about offseason and his mentality changes- it completely changes our trajectory. We’ll find out though early next season though if hes in shape and ready to go.

AD was already Cp3 2.0.

I honestly can’t hang on for another hard rebuild after getting 0 for a franchise player.

I am not having a good time.

Firing a mediocre head coach and then promoting a mediocre head coach on that first head coach's staff does nothing but continue the Pels cycle.

This isn’t a pat on the back sort of post, but I complained most of the season about where the Pelicans were in comparison to the Thunder and Wolves. Even when things were looking pretty, they were never quite as pretty as those two franchises. Just two or three years ago the three franchises were often held in comparison to one another, and a lot of people would consistently say they’d take our young core over those others. Fast forward to now, we are about to be swept by OKC and Minnesota is about to sweep Phoenix. It’s really sad to look at the path they’ve taken vs our Pelicans just stuck in mud. This is a point that should be talked about more frequently, imo.
