Retroactive Verdict: Like everyone else with an IQ over 80, I hated that trade for New Orleans, writing that “David Simon might have to revolve an entire Treme season around the Cans botching this summer. Er, the Pels.” If New Orleans never did anything last July, it’d have a top-10 lottery pick, Noel, whatever late first-rounder it fetched at the deadline for Robin Lopez, Ryan Anderson, craploads of cap space except for Eric Gordon’s salbatross … oh, and they’d have the NBA’s third-best asset (21-year-old superfreak Anthony Davis).

Bonus Tanking Potential: The Cans looked tanktastic until Davis ripped off this outlandish six-game streak … 42.3 MPG, 32.3 PPG, 14.3 RPG, 58% FG, 87% FT (and four wins). Good luck tanking games with a superfreak on your team, New Orleans. They’re losing this pick and they know it. You gotta love the Cans — they trade Chris Paul for 12 cents on the dollar and acquire Holiday for 150 cents on the dollar, they sign Tyreke Evans for 250 cents on the dollar, they spend a top-10 lottery pick on Austin Rivers, and yet, none of it matters because they won the Anthony Davis lottery and he’s gonna be an all-timer. The NBA … where getting rewarded for repeatedly shooting yourself in the foot happens.

Didn't realize that we traded them in the Holiday deal.

Wonder if he has any clue that Reke has absolutely gone off since getting legit minutes.

I'm still a big fan of his. Really entertaining, but he clearly doesn't watch as much basketball as he used to.

I'd rather have Jrue+Reke+ an asset in jackson than a center with one knee and no offensive game. If that makes me dumb than so be it.

So much mad in this.

I couldn't care less about losing the 11th or 12th pick

The CP3 trade led to AD

Tyreke has been ballin and putting up ridiculous numbers.

Jrue is a top 10 PG and a great leader

Rivers has turned into a legit 3rd guard(about as good as you'll get with the 10th pick) and still is only 21.

The man clearly doesn't know what he's talking about(regarding the modern NBA)

Even looking at his entire season (where he clearly had some rough stretches, particularly coming off of injuries), he is 7th amongst SF's in PER.

And yeah, he's putting up 23/6/6 in March.

Awesome.

I think injuries (both to him and other key players) played a big role in why he had trouble adjusting. That and it's obvious he has turned the corner since sliding into a starting position at the 3.

Yeah Noel might suck and looks to be a skinny defensive small forward. How does that make us better.

Also even with all the injuries NOLA is still looking at a late lottery pick. The Pelicans were protected fine with the top 5 protection.

Evans and Holiday look to be top end starters going forward at PG and SF. Also while Gordon is overpaid he is still a young strong SG.

People are being over critical of the roster. With people getting healthy the team will take another step forward.

A lineup of Holiday/Gordon/Evans/Anderson/Davis will be tough for opposing teams to handle next season.

He'll write an article praising the moves next year when we're a playoff team and Noel is looking like a rookie. Then in 2-3 more years idiot journalists will realize it was a win win trade that allowed the Pelicans to put appropriately aged talent around the ahead of schedule Davis and let Philly do the same with Wiggins or whoever they draft high.

Isn't this like the 3rd times
he's "revisited" the trade since the draft? Did Jrue and Dell Eiffel Tower his girlfriend or something? The guy clearly wants to make sure that everyone knows how much he hates this trade. Can't wait till everyone is healthy, and he looks like an idiot.

Fun fact, Philly is the #4 media market while New Orleans is #53. Remember what the primary motivation is for ESPN.

The thing he completely ignores is the massive injuries. That is self serving and disingenuous.

But he's got a decent point in terms of questioning the trade.

Forget Noel. What if they had taken Burke or MCW? Obviously neither is as good as Holiday, and no guarantee they make it. But the talent is there to be good pgs. Plus you have cap space and this year's pick to play with for improvements

Holiday is good, but good enough for $11M and 2 lottery picks? Not so sure.

Especially when a large part of his benefit over Noel was health. Paying that much for 35 games is a loss. There's no way to plan for injuries, so it's no one's fault. But coupled with Montys inability to work with a roster like this, it isnt outlandish to say the trade has been bad for New Orleans so far

even then, he always picked sides early and would argue until the death. then he'd ignore it for 6 mos and then do a "i'm an idiot, why did you listen to me?" paragraph in a random column

he severely underrates jrue and obviously has no idea what tyreke has been doing

there is a mythology in current rebuilding thought in the NBA that you have to keep continuing to suck until you hit on picks similar to OKC or portland, and then you make 1-2 trades for vets. there is no alternative option
