Dell got really creative with contracts this summer. As I hinted to in another thread, you will see Babbitt's 2nd year isn't guaranteed.

Incentives in Asik and Ajinca's deals likely tied to games played. Dell works the edges well. Now, he just needs to nail the next big move

Even better.

Now that isfricking weird. I don't think I've ever seen that in an NBA contract.

Really interesting.

I was hoping it was fully NG that year though.

That's interesting. So the last year only $3 million guaranteed if he hits his incentives BUT it's not a team option, a player option. An unguaranteed year with a player option. Either party could walk away.

Jrue has close to 1 million in incentives in each of his years. Obviously, hasn't met them in last two.

Serious question, where any other teams interested in Asik?
Were there any rumors of him going elsewhere possibly?

Was always reported that 5th year was non-guaranteed. Now it is at least $3 million guaranteed and maybe millions more?

OK, some contract details from a good source (Pels have not confirmed or denied). So, it looks like most (more than half) of Asik's 4th yr is guaranteed. Only a small part is not. Only a small part of 5th year is guaranteed (about 3 mil). Sounds like the logic here is that if Asik doesnt pan out, the Pels can stretch him after 3rd yr & have remaining 12 mil or so spread out over 5 yrs. 2.5 mil per yr is nothing

Scott told people there was a small portion guaranteed in 5th year, didn't he?

We all knew it, and I am pretty sure it was reported by him. Wasn't it?

This seems to put the whole thing into context.

Scott who? Kushner didn't. He reported 5th year not guaranteed. Maybe the end result will end up being the same (but spread between 4th and 5th year) if your source is correct.

Did he say not guaranteed or not fully guaranteed?

Either way - sorry. Assumed it was known.

More info - base starts at 9.2, goes up to 11.98. Standard raises. 1 mil in incentives possible for each season. Still don't know what incentives are based on. Last thing I need to find out.

Incentives will likely be available in a week or so. Early rumblings is games played and maybe rebounds. Cap figures for players are based on likelihood to reach incentive, so it could make a slight difference

Yeah - says only first four of the deal are guaranteed. Deal isn't fully guaranteed, etc.

Either way, that is my bad. It was widely known behind the scenes and I assumed it was said in public. Won't make that assumption next time.

I guess I am wondering what the issue is. It's almost just as valuable a trade chip and/or not an issue if we just decline it.

I guess I am more excited about the incentives part and the overall 4th and 5th year 'get out' plan in the worst case scenario than most.

The deal is a little cheaper than previously thought with about $1 million per year in incentives being categorized as unlikely and not counting since he didn't achieve the incentives this past year.

Actual Numbers

$9,213,483
$9,904,494
$10,595,505
$11,286,516
$11,977,527

Projected Numbers

$10,000,000
$10,750,000
$11,500,000
$12,250,000
$13,000,000

Why this matters is that it's almost an extra million in cap space next summer.
