All honesty how you think thats working out?

AD in the 4th quarter, IMO, can guard almost any 5.

That's the point. It doesn't really work and they haven't changed it. They try their best to avoid having Davis guard the 5. So playing a 3/4 with Davis means they still will play a 5 too. Getting a 3rd big who can guard 5s to play with Davis seems like the move they need to make. But it's likely going to be a 5 that is limited offensively.

His switching ability and the fact that he can guard 2-4 is a big plus for Draymond, though.

That is a very good point that I didn't consider as much as I should have. No doubt Draymond still brings value, even at the 3. I guess I just see him as a superior version of Cunningham.

Thats actually a really good point. I guess if we swapped Green for Anderson we would have to trade or let go Jrue Evans or Gordon

1) Jrue/Evans
2) Gordon/Evans
3) Green
4) AD
5) Asik or ( Some one Better)

I honestly rather not lose Jrue Gordon or Evans but only if we get a starting caliber 3 and/or a great 5

Great point. Draymond would rarely guard 4's unless Davis was guarding 5's, which is not ideal. His switching ability and the fact that he can guard 2-4 is a big plus for Draymond, though.

So it looks like Golden State has been rolling small with Draymond at the 5 and Iguodala/Barnes at the 4 a good bit lately. I was way off on that. Very interesting move by Kerr.

Really interesting read from Kawakami

Some quotes from Kerr.

quote:

Kerr on going to small ball to close the second halves of the last three games, including this one: “We don’t necessarily want to, but we feel like we’re really good at it. And Draymond allows us to do that, along with Andre and Harrison.

“But Draymond’s sort of the key guy because he can play the 5. Looked at some numbers today, when Draymond is at the 5, our defensive rating is just off the charts, like 87.5 per 100 possessions. To give you some context, we’re No. 1 in the league overall, we’re at I think a defensive rating of 98 points allowed per 100 possessions… When Draymond’s at the 5, that number is 87.5. It’s crazy.

“Small ball is the way everyone’s going and it’s good for us; we’re good at it.”

quote:

I think Draymond has a lot of Dennis Rodman in him. He defies positions, he guards anybody, he’s quick enough to stay in front of point guards; he’s big and strong and tough at the rim and rebounds like crazy.

“Again, this is the way the league is changing–I mean, Brooklyn has entirely changed their style since the beginning of the year when we played them. They’re playing one big and four smalls and they’re switching everything on the perimeter.

“So to survive in this league you have to have the versatility with your wings and also your bigs, and we have a lot of those guys. Our roster is really good for that kind of stuff. And Draymond obviously, as I said, kind of sets the tone.”

Interesting, I've yet to see Draymond at the 5 and would be interested in how opponents handle that. 87.5 is awesome, but what's the sample size? Putting Draymond at the 5 fine against the Pels, because that eliminates any issue with playing AD at the 5. If healthy the Pels could go small against that with Holiday, Gordon, Evans, Pondexter, and AD.

Sample size would be 3 halves at least, against Boston, Brooklyn and Milwaukee. Looking at the game logs from those games, the centers actually scored at a good clip.

Celtics - Win - Zeller 17/6 Bass 15/12
Nets - Loss - Plumlee 7/7 Lopez 26/6
Bucks - Win - Pachulia 13/11 (a good bit above his average)

So it's not like Draymond is shutting the opposing big down. It could be about taking the other team out of their rythm by giving them a mismatch they wouldn't normally have. We opened the Denver game with Asik trying to post up Faried because Monty is a moron that thought 7 feet has to beat 6'8 even if it's an extraordinarily clumsy 7 feet that can't post up a chair.

According to NBAWOWY, it's 208 minutes with Green on and Bogut, Speights, Lee, Ezeli and Nedovic off. They have the numbers at 114.3 ORating and 85.2 DRating.

Certainly, small sample size is small. But that's a promising trend for them.

ETA: Barnes, Curry, Green, Iguodala, Thompson is 115/86 in 85 minutes.
