Wonder if he could have played till the end of the season? I hope he wasn't convinced to shut it down to frick up his chances at the bonus.

I'm sure he and his people were well aware that it would likely mean he wouldn't get All-NBA. They aren't stupid.

It was probably just smarter for him to get healthy and consider his long-term gains.

Hopefully this will make him mad at the league.

One can only hope, but him being mad at the league won't help our playoff hopes, not just playoffs but actually advancing. We need a lot more help.

Agreed.

Also, anyone have the relevant cap breakdown handy now that this has been finalized?

I count about $21 million in cap space with a $92 million cap. If you want to go after a max player like Batum you'd probably need to move Tyreke. Maybe you can get away with trading Ajinca + Gee and not bringing back Ennis, but I haven't seen an authoritative Max projection yet. It's going to be in the ball park of $26 milliion.

AD
Jrue
Tyreke
Asik
Ajinca
Pondexter
Cunningham
#6
Gee
Frazier
Ennis
$70.9 million total

ETA: Make that $20 million, I forgot BDJ. Although I suppose you could keep it at $21 and not bring back Ennis.

Pelicans just a few more years of mediocre to bad play with Dell Demps pulling the strings before AD is ready to go play for a competent organization and he demands a trade and then we can start all over.

It was well noted that this was discussed between AD and the team when he was shut down.

Ajinca and Gee need to go. that's an extra $5 million.
Get some 2nd round picks for them from a team like Boston or Denver that has too many.

IF you can get a late first for Reke, that's an extra $11 million. Then we are looking at closer to $35 million in space.
Jrue
Hield/Dunn
FA Crabbe
Pondexter
FA Marvin Williams
AD
Asik
FA Miles Plumlee
FA Dwight Powell/Jordan Hill
Cunningham
Late 1st (maybe from Philly or Phoenix)

We could then have 4 2nd round picks, Frazier, Ennis, BDJ fighting for 2 spots, maybe 3 if we don't have enough to sign that 4th FA.

They will find some way to get him some extra money or maybe AD goes full KG and is pissed and ready to come to work everyday and destroy the league..

We aren't getting rid of all of those guys without taking on salary.

Regardless, I'm not really interested in going all in like that this year.

I like the "reasonable" offseason plan Fisher at TBW came up with. Replace Ryno with someone like Terrence Jones. Take a flyer on an athletic defensive wing that's at the right age to blossom soon like Solomon Hill. I'd also throw in dumping Cunningham and replacing him with Jared Dudley. Dudley's a better shooter and he's at that age where he's started playing the small ball 4 more often so if you sign Dudley then Cunningham becomes a waste of $3 million.

LOL

This franchise barely makes a dent in the local and national consciousness. At this point, ownership apparently cares more about losing horse races than winning basketball games. Thats not even to mention the Jerry Springer-worthy drama going on behind the scenes. He's the only thing standing between this franchise being the Bad News Bears of the NBA.

Its also absolute nonsense that reporters get to determine player's salaries. It's barely a step up from just letting fans vote what they want to pay guys.
