I, more than most, am pessimistic about 2nd rounders. The odds say it is unlikely the Pels even get a rotation guy with either of their two picks. That said, there are a few guys I am hoping will be there. Here are my top 5 guys that could go in the 2nd. What are yours?

1. Denzel Valentine - I don't care if he only plays 4-5 years. I will take him for 4 years over any guy likely to be there for 10
2. Robert Carter - I think this is a great guy to put next to AD. Big, Beefy guy who can defend most C's or stretch 4's/5's and also hit the jumper
3. Stephen Zimmerman - Another big who fits my criteria of what I want next to AD
4. Paul Zipser - Can be a rotation player as soon as next year, and for the next 10 years. A better Joe Ingles IMO
5. Patrick McCaw - 15 pounds of muscle away from being a guy who would have been taken in the top 15

Valentine would be the perfect pick but I don't think he lasts until our 2nd

Unlikely? Maybe, but with the knee issues it's possible.

Fans love to talk about 2nd rounders but they are generally worthless.

I agree that the numbers say they are likely to amount to nothing. I just want to get an idea to who people like BEFORE Thursday

Because I know how human beings work. Whoever we take will be loved by 90% of fans by August. People will pass round articles praising the guy and his upside, back story, blah blah, blah

So I want to know who people like NOW, before they talk themselves into who we actually pick

And for those who say "NO way Valentine is there," you would have said the same thing about Dejuan Blair two days before that draft. I have a hard time believing a team will spend a 1st rounder on a guy if he is projected to have a 4-5 year career. Then, the early 2nd round is usually reserved for super high upside and/or draft and stash guys

It's possible.

Only person I know who'll be a 2nd is Devin Williams. So of course him.

I don't know so much names but I can tell you what I want out of it...

I'd like to draft and stash a big with one of the two picks and then draft another wing with the other (assuming we don't use either or both in trades to move up or to move someone else - here's hoping Tyreke is dealt)...

That's why he said 'generally', not 'always' worthless

Yeah I'm just pointing out that discussing potential second round picks isn't "always" worthless

Valentine would be incredibly lucky and I would love it. I'm A big fan of his passing abilities and think AD would benefit a lot.

Gary Payton II I like a lot, I think he can be a good bench type PG/wing defender like a Delly or Beverly type of player.

I'd take Plumlee too, all his brothers are rotation bigs in the league, can't hurt to take a flyer on the family gene pool. We could use a cheap high energy center.

Of course not. But I do think expectations should be tempered as well. Again, history says that if even one of these guys become a 7th or 8th man, that would be better than the norm. Yet, I can guarantee you that by August, there will be several posters on this board listing these guys as rotation players and/or getting excited about their long term potential as possible future starters

This isn't pelicans report. Vast, vast majority of posters wouldn't pencil in a 2nd rounder as a starter or role player.

I will save this. I guarantee a fair amount of people here will be excited about one or both of these kids in August/September

If not, you are all robots because human beings accept the narratives that benefit them. We shall see

But that's beyond the point- Anybody else want to list the guys you like?!?
