18-28 again

That where we were last year at this time, and we are there again.
AD has missed 4 games this year. 8 last year.
Jrue has missed 15 games this year. 6 last year, but was on a heavy minute restriction to the first 15 or so gams.
Reke has missed 28 games this year. 21 last year.
DC has missed 13 games this year. 1 last year.
EG had missed 5, Ryno had missed 2 last year up to this point. Moore/Galloway/Hield/Solo have missed 6 combined.
2 years ago we were 26-22 and made the playoffs.
AD missed 5 games up to this point.
Ryno had missed 1.
EG had missed 20.
Jrue had missed 13.
Reke had missed 1.
So over the last 3 years, it's been pretty consistent with AD and Jrue missing time. The last 2 years we were pretty healthy with our shooters, Hield/Galloway/Moore this year and EG/Ryno last year. 3 years ago we had a big chunk of time missed by EG, but we were better than we are now. Maybe ole Reke is a little more important to this team than most think.
Or Gentry is still not a good head coach.
Regardless of the inconclusive evidence above, except the Gentry isnt' a good head coach part, we really need to tank it this year. Make some trades and get some picks back and/or expirings, anything to not improve. We are 2.5 games out of a top 3 pick. Just pack it in and lets start over next year, with a new coach, and some new faces around AD.
Send Jrue to Denver for Mudiay/Nelson and their 1st.
Trade Reke to Memphis for Brandan Wright and Troy Daniels and their 1st. Give them the Philly 2nd we have if that helps. Troy Daniels is cheap and shoots well from 3 and can replace Galloway for next year.
At the end of the season, trade all 3 first round picks we have acquired, one being a top 5 pick, to Chicago for Jimmy Butler. Convince Hayward to come here with Jimmy and AD and create a new big 3. Backup plan of CP3 if Hayward says no.
Championship ensues.

I just want to say I hated everything you said until the end
Not your opinion of course, just those facts. When Monty is a far better coach you know our coach is balls.

The team is stuck and the unfortunate truth is that dell isn't going anywhere. the two options are basically:
See what teams would offer for AD. He's an unbelievable talent but the guy is injury prone and doesn't seem to have great leadership qualities. I know he is still young, but he's been in the league for five years now. Whatever we would get in return wouldn't equal his talent leve but we need to do something.
Let ADs contract runs its course ( if he doesn't demand a trade) and float around the edge of the lottery and the 8th seed until then. Then we are back to the Stone Age.

this team still has a heartbeat because the 8th seed is up for grabs.
with Jrue, the Pelicans are a .500 team this year. With Evans this entire season, you could certainly think that this team is at least a 5th seed right now.
I surely like your theories, but why would Jimmy Butler doesn't want to come here? I understand the thought here that Chicago will probably blow their roster up, but I also don't think that happens. And, Hayward is already a god in Utah. He ain't leaving that franchise.
I like the idea of adding one of Philly's bigs down low to take the beatings AD gets.

He doens't have a choice if he's getting traded.
We could trade Jrue to Chicago for Rondo and a first, and they will likely get better and not blow it all up, assuming Jrue stays healthy, or Chicago can not do much at all before the trade deadline and limp into the playoffs at best and decide to blow it up this offseason.
Philly and Boston have much more to offer for Butler than we do though.
I was just playing fantasy basketball with all that. Realistically what we need to do is trade as many people as we can for picks and/or expirings and start over. Jrue/Reke/Asik/Ajinca/Hill, all need to go.
I would think you could get a 1st for Jrue from a playoff contender like Chicago or Denver. Not really sure what you could get for Reke, if anything. Asik/Ajinca/Hill need to get the hell out of here somehow and get back expirings.
I'd like to go into the draft knowing AD/Buddy/Diallo/Moore are the only players with us under contract for the upcoming year, but that's a bit far fetched.

How many games has AD started but has not finished or missed time in the game? It seems like that number is high. I know the last two for sure and can recall like 3 or 4 more this season.

I don't think the missed games this year is a fair criticism of Holiday. The guy's family was facing a horrible medical situation. Holiday missed three games after returning from that situation.
Posted on 1/26/17 at 12:33 pm to TeddyPadillac
right now they are looking at the 10th pick if they miss the playoffs and the 15th if they make it. neither of those are roster changers, more than likely
i agree with you that they should tank, primarily by moving holiday now

If the draft is as deep as the experts say it is then a top 10 pick will help
But what do they know
But what do they know

Although it feels like theybsays this every couple of years , you can already see 7 guys in this draft class with all star potential. Maybe even higher
Posted on 1/26/17 at 1:10 pm to Macintosh504
What was the best class of the last ten years and how many franchise changing players were in that draft?
History says that, at most, there will be 4. And that is if you develop them properly and they avoid major injuries. If we selected a guy like Kawhi who can be a franchise changer if he goes to the right organization or just good if he goes to the wrong one, do you trust this franchise to turn him into the former? Or does this franchise have to draft a no dpubt type?

yes

Then, to me, the only "no doubters" in this draft are Smith and Fultz. I think Jackson might have the highest upside but he needs to be groomed correctly. Ball will need patience too
Posted on 1/26/17 at 2:26 pm to Crewz
i kinda like jonathan isaac but he'll be gone no doubt by #10. and you are right i would not trust this team at all to develop a young player properly
players that have improved since the CP3 trade and davis was drafted:
1) davis
2) MAYBE cunningham

I think this team has a pretty good track record for improving guys shots with Fred Vinson. Tyreke, Cunningham, Gordon. That's what they should aim for, get a guy who's main deficiency is his shot that the interviews/work ethic and Fred Vinson tell you you can fix.
I don't think Og Anunoby will be anything more than a 3 and D type of SF, but he's the guy I hope is there if we have a pick in the teens. He reminds me of an Aminu that can attack the basket. Let Vinson fix his shot and you might have something.

The only chance this franchise has is if their next pick becomes a stud. Not good, not quasi All Star. Stud.
I worry they won't get high enough to get that guy. And I also worry that hey won't develop him properly. Yes, they are good at adding to a guys skill set but there is a lot more to developing a player mentally. I worry that this is where we stink

Pretty much, and even then Dell/Gentry would find a way to be mediocre.
I've pretty much given up at this point. I need to see some actual progress with ownership/front office/HC before I can give a frick.

I've accepted they won't get high enough to get that guy. Even if they go on the losing streak here you've been talking about and become sellers, I just don't see them trading Holiday. They'll make some moves like
Tyreke + Ajinca to ATL for Splitter and Hardaway
Galloway + Jones to the Wiz for Jason Smith + 1st
Smith and Hardaway kind of offset the loss of Galloway and Jones plus you dumped Ajinca and got a 1st to bundle with your #9 pick that you use to trade Asik for Dwight Howard on draft night

I think they could be the 5th worst in the league if they sell today. Maybe 3rd or 4th. Can't catch Brooklyn, but everyone else is theoretically catchable if Pels just offload Jrue and Reke for guys who won't help this year
