I only keep what I love and listen to on a pretty regular basis. I have ~5,000 songs.

I have a co-worker who has 80,000 songs. It seems to me that he likes to have a large collection that he rarely listens to.

Just curious about he and I, which is more the norm and which is the exception.

Last time I checked around 40000+ songs.
Lol have playlists for everything. From gaming to taking a dump.
But I listen to all genres.
People laugh at my shuffle. Goes from early nineties faith hill to some arch enemy. .then to some christmad carols!

80,000 songs at 4 minutes each....320,000 minutes

320,000 / 60 minutes in an hour...5,333 hours of music.

He would have to listen 8 hours a day for 2 1/2 years to do each one once.

I am in kinda the same boat with CDs and LPs--about 8,000 total between the two mediums!

I have shitload of music on vinyl and CD. I cherry-pick everything when it comes to my digital library because if I want the lesser tracks I can go listen to them on the hard copies. Got about 60 gigs of nothing but top shelf stuff on my devices. Life is too short for filler.

mid-20k range on total individual songs.

Pretty eclectic, too, although 1970s and 1980s dominate, AOR, hair metal, "classic rock" are your most prevalent genres - from Abba to Zeppelin

3,000 mp3 on phone. I usually end up deleting several due to space. I would love to have more, but then again, I have heard "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and "Stairway to Heaven" enough times to where I do not need to own them/listen to them ever again.

219 CD's (would probably double that if I would not have carelessly gotten rid of so many since the mp3 age).

168 vinyl (95 percent of which are original releases. I won re-presses/1st time presses of Siamese Dream, Pretty Hate Machine, Opiate, and Nas's Illmatic)

I assume you are referring to downloaded music. I only have slightly over 3,000 songs downloaded. I have a unlimited account with Rhapsody, though, so I am always checking out new stuff.

I have roughly 20,000 songs that I keep on song shuffle in my car. It's like having a radio station just for me, and it crosses all genres. When I do my focused listening, I listen at home on vinyl, sit in my chair, and open up the whiskey.

With streaming services now easily accessible, I only keep music on vinyl. I probably have around 200 LP's.

I have a couple of hard drives full of FLAC's of Widespread Panic and Phish shows, but I haven't hooked either up to a computer in several years.
