They never get enough credit. I have to go with Levon Helm but Don Henley in a close second. Both had great voices. John Bonham 3rd, the power was amazing. Artimus Pyle honorable mention for having the greatest name and a sweet beard. Plus he survived the crash.

Brannon Dailor from Mastodon
Abe Cunningham from Deftones

Moe Tucker: pioneering self-taught drummer for the Velvet Underground, Tea Party supporter

quote:

Ms. Tucker, in the interview, ran through the misconceptions people have about tea partiers: “that they’re all racists, they’re all religious nuts, they’re all uninformed, they’re all stupid, they want no taxes at all and no regulations whatsoever.” These stereotypes, she observed, are encouraged by Democrats to keep their base “on their side.” But she is not a stereotype: “Anyone who thinks I’m crazy about Sarah Palin, Bush, etc., has made quite the presumption. I have voted Democrat all my life, until I started listening to what Obama was promising and started wondering how the hell will this utopian dream be paid for?”

Levon, no question. There are other players who were more technically skilled, other players who were faster, but nobody lays down a groove the way Levon did. "He's the only drummer that can break your heart."
