Just scored tickets for the Yes/TOTO show on August 21st. Presale code "TOTOXIV". Squire, Howe and White are in bitches with Geoff Downs handling Keys. Should be a great show for one of my fav bands. Saw them twice before in the late 70's. Not much of a TOTO fan, esp without Jeff Porcaro (RIP).
Yes in the round back in the day was one of the best shows i ever witnessed.....

Got my tickets for August 25 at Cynthia Woods Pavilion in The Woodlands. Should be nice and toasty...

A couple weeks ago they had a recent Yes concert on AXS. Without a doubt, it was the most pathetic and downright putrid show I could imagine. Just stunningly bad. The singer was exhorting the crowd to stand up and wave their hands, but not a soul was moving out of their seats.

that sounds depressing
It really was. I couldn't believe what I was seeing and hearing.
I was surprised that AXS would air something like that. Hell, they show a lot of old bands that still put on decent shows. For instance, I was surprised at how well America came off in one recent concert they showed last year. They still seemed like a band having fun making music. Yes couldn't have come across more different.
I hope the OP catches them on a better night and has a good time anyway.

This would just boggle my mind given the participation of Squire, White & Howe. Anderson's vocal's would not be easy to duplicate and understood. Downs is no chump on keys, but Wakeman was amazing. Was it the same lineup? Regardless, I could not imagine these HOF musicians sucking.

As are almost all shows now, esp considering I paid $8 to see them in 1979........

I'm not surprised. I don't get the feel that Howe, Squire and White are playing together for the pure enjoyment of it, or because they feel some sort of creative spark. It just seems an uninspired, crass endeavor to milk the legacy of Yes for some money.
Some of the bands that do these reunion tours are obviously having a good time, and others that aren't just make me sad to think about.

They've slowed the tempos down quite a bit on certain songs, which is the biggest problem. From what I've seen on Youtube, Squire still tries to work the crowd a bit, but Steve is a lot more reserved, even surly at times. He'll suddenly glare at the audience, ask them to be quiet, and threaten to kick a lighting guy in the head. Given that his appearance has aged him into the offspring of Gollum and the Cryptkeeper, the sudden glares can be rather disconcerting. BTW, I fully approve of expelling audience members that Woohoo! during quiet moments in the music. I have several live recordings including some of Steve's solo records (e.g. Not Necessarily Acoustic) that are ruined by those retards.

They can still play all the notes, but they do it with no palpable sense that they're enjoying it. I got the distinct feeling they were just on stage for the paycheck.

I saw Steve Lukather play in Ringo's All Star band early this year. He played and sang really well.
