I always liked them. Songs like Far Away and Someday are still classics in my mind.

They are still hated. The hate really didn't seem to start until about 2003-2004. I think they just represented everything that was wrong with mainstream rock at the time and people associated them with that.

This didn't help either

this and they wrote some pretty amazingly bad songs.

What made it worse is I could always see potential for them to be really good. They had a lot of great pieces that could have made up a great rock band, but god they write bad songs.

Because their songs are actually incredibly awful. Three-chord, not lyrically substantive songs and Chad's voice just annoys me.

They're douchy and write generic, made-to-order pop songs that sound exactly the same.

I can't tell if this is supposed to be a Foo Fighters thread or not.

That escalated quickly. The Coldplay hate should start any minute now.

Grohl and Kroeger would, together, create the rock pop anti-christ.

The hate is sorta irrational really.. They are just the unfortunate band that got pegged in the shitty mid 2000s "alternative rock" pushback.

There were bands far worse than them, but the Nickelback sucks meme just blew up and took on a life of its own

They were hated then and they're hated now. I know it ended years prior, but they always felt like the end of mainstream rock. They were the nail in the coffin.

Because when you hear a NB song you feel like your being beaten over the head with a 2x4

Never took the red pill. They are a catchy pop-rock band that blew up faster than they probably should have. His voice is very recognizable and thats $$ to any producer wanting to put his name on the title. Im not gonna buy their music, but I will say this -

If I was at a music festival and they were somehow on the bill, playing next at the stage I was at, and the other stages were a good distance away, I probably wouldn't leave.
