A band that really was before its time. The Warning was a masterpiece and so was Rage for Order. Operation Mindcrime was damn good too.

Goeff Tate kills their version of Red Rain by Peter Gabriel on the Take Cover album...Gotdamn flawless...

Were amazing til after Empire. Definitely more than a 80's hair band. DeGarmo left in 97, Tate got full of himself after that with Mindcrime 2 and combining the band with cabaret. Saw the new version last year, Todd can hit those note that Geoff used to sing. Great to hear "Queen of the Ryche" and "Take Hold of the Flame"

I watched them open for Ratt at the Centroplex in Baton Rouge in the 80's. They sucked and the crowd was sitting down. The lead singer mother fricked the entire audience like a little cry baby. They right right below suck for me.

Everything through Empire was awesome. They're top ten for me. The boys from Belleview..

for me, no band has put together a run of records as good as the ep-empire.
although one can make a great case for metallica, I prefer queensryche from that era.
each record is very different in style, but there's no mistaking who it is.
didn't like much they did after empire. tate's voice went downhill as did the writing.

Everything after Operation Mindcrime is crap, but that was a masterpiece, ahead of it's time. Love Rage For Order too.

Empire was my very 1st CD & OM was my 2nd. If I had to pick 10 CDs to listen to forever Empire would be there.

Couldn't agree more. It's absolutely fantastic. I'm still mesmerized by it all these years later. An enigmatic story coupled with amazing songs and musicianship.

Empire is my favorite. The record is sonically one of the best I have ever heard. The sound is just perfect. The team of Peter Collins, Jimbo Barton, and Paul Northfield were at their very best on this one. They came nowhere close to this good of a sound on all the Rush records they worked on. They were good, but Empire is a feast for the ears.

Meh...I appreciate the instrumental prowess, but I'm not down with the operatic vibrato singing.

I've never heard this about an 80's Queensryche performance. They were absolutely fantastic live from what I've heard.

Well I was there. I saw it. Lead guy was pissed that everyone ignored them while waiting for RATT. I mean you open for a reason.

Oh, I can see it happening. I've seen some audiences really grate on bands before.

Similar thing happened at the P-Mac in ‘88 when they opened for Def Leppard. Oddly enough, though I was there to see Def Leppard, I grew to REALLY like Operation Mindcrime after that show.

I saw that tour. queensryche was great. it wasn't that they sounded bad or put on a bad performance. it was more that the complexity of their music was over the typical ratt fan's head.
The pairing of those bands on that tour was strange.
I liked ratt, but on their best day, they never sounded this good live.

Promised Land is a completely underrated album (especially consideringnit followed up Empire). It is a uniquely dark and proggy and carries a vibe throughout. Great album. Sneaky good.
