hawkeye broke the news on the tech board.

quote:

On November 17, 2016, 12 servers were seized from OVH in the north of France.[4][15] Shortly afterwards, the site announced their closure on both the index page and Twitter, saying "Due to some recent events, What.CD is shutting down. We are not likely to return any time soon in our current form. All site and user data has been destroyed. So long, and thanks for all the fish.", the last line being a quote from the novel The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

What a shame.

The top 10 was the best source of new music. Not sure how to proceed.

Really sad day. Nothing else like it. The largest repository of music in world history.

I thought it was odd when the top ten of the day was missing, and the month had some odd names on the list, but I didn't think it was a sign they had pressed the self destruct button. Really sucks.

they were having some tracker issues, and that was the issue on top 10.

waffles is coming back, but with a 150k+ refugees there is no way they can support it.

Plus waffles is not near as comprehensive nor is it as well organized.

A bunch of ppl moved over to libble.me but they can't handle that load nor do they want to.

my libble and waffles accounts went inactive.

interesting. I had good luck with waffles until they moved a while back and it never did get back to it's previous state before going down again.

The tracker appeared broken on the final day, but it was much worse than that as we soon found out.
