Whiskey Lullaby

She put that bottle to her head and pulled the trigger
And finally drank away his memory
Life is short, but this time it was bigger
Than the strength she had to get up off her knees
We found her with her face down in the pillow
Clinging to his picture for dear life
We laid her next to him beneath the willow
While the angels sang a whiskey lullaby

As was Whitley's "Don't Close Your Eyes"

Can't believe nobody mentioned "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" by Gordon Lightfoot.

Hey Joe written by Billy Roberts and interpreted by Hendrix, morbid tale of a man fleeing to Mexico after shooting his unfaithful wife. The blues structure of the song perfectly evoked the appropriate emotions associated.

"Shot my old lady 'cause she was messin' 'round town"--what's so sad about that?

Hey, I'm just kidding. I don't know if it's the saddest song ever, but "Hey Joe" is an awesome song. I love playing it.

Also, check out "Signed D.C." by Love. Junkies' blues song by Arthur Lee.

In a blues context, it so evokes a melancholic feeling even within Hendrix's masterful playing. One of Hendrix's finest moments but exudes such a depressing feel in the vibe.

Dust in the Wind is pretty sobering.

"Court of the Crimson King" is one of the most melancholic
