POLLY VAUGHN - Traditional Folk song

I shall tell of a hunter whose life was undone
By the cruel hand of evil at the setting of the sun
His arrow was loosed and it flew thru the dark
And his true love was slain as the shaft found its mark

For she'd her apron wrapped around her
and he took her for a swan
and it's o and alas, it was she, Polly Vaughn

He ran up beside her and found it was she
He turned away his head for he could not bear to see
He lifted her up and found she was dead
A fountain of tears for his true love he shed

He bore her away to his home by the sea
Crying Father, o Father, I've murdered poor Polly
I've killed my fair love in the flower of her life
I'd always intended that she'd be my wife

He roamed near the place where his true love was slain
He wept bitter tears, but his tears were all in vain
As he looked on the lake, a swan glided by
And the sun slowly sank in the grey of the sky

MORNING DEW - GRATEFUL DEAD - Songwriters: DAVID, MACK / WALLINGTON, GEORGE

Walk me out in the morning dew my honey,
Walk me out in the morning dew today.
I can't walk you out in the morning dew my honey,
I can't walk you out in the morning dew today.

I thought I heard a baby cry this morning,
I thought I heard a baby cry this today.
You didn't hear no baby cry this morning,
You didn't hear no baby cry today.

Where have all the people gone my honey,
Where have all the people gone today.
There's no need for you to be worrying about all those people,
You never see those people anyway.

I thought I heard a young man mourn this morning,
I thought I heard a young man mourn today.
I thought I heard a young man mourn this morning,
I can't walk you out in the morning dew today.

Walk me out in the morning dew my honey,
Walk me out in the morning dew today.
I'll walk you out in the morning dew my honey,
I guess it doesn't really matter anyway,

I guess it doesn't matter anyway,
I guess it doesn't matter anyway,
I guess it doesn't matter anyway,
Guess it doesn't matter anyway.

TEEN ANGEL - MARK DINNING - Songwriter: SURREY, JEAN

Teen angel, teen angel, teen angel, ooh, ooh
That fateful night the car was stalled upon the railroad track
I pulled you out and we were safe, but you went running back

[Chorus:]

Teen angel, can you hear me?
Teen angel, can you see me?
Are you somewhere up above
And I am still your own true love?

What was it you were looking for that took your life that night?
They said they found my high school ring clutched in your fingers tight

Just sweet sixteen, and now you're gone
They've taken you away.
I'll never kiss your lips again
They buried you today

Teen angel, teen angel, answer me, please

He said "I'll love you till I die"
She told him "you'll forget in time"
As the years went slowly by
She still preyed upon his mind

He kept her picture on his wall
Went half-crazy now and then
He still loved her through it all
Hoping she'd come back again

Kept some letters by his bed
Dated nineteen sixty-two
He had underlined in red
Every single "I love you"

I went to see him just today
Oh, but I didn't see no tears
All dressed up to go away
First time I'd seen him smile in years

He stopped loving her today
They placed a wreath upon his door
And soon they'll carry him away
He stopped loving her today

You know, she came to see him one last time
Aww, and we all wondered if she would
And it kept runnin' through my mind
"This time he's over her for good"

He stopped loving her today
They placed a wreath upon his door
And soon they'll carry him away
He stopped loving her today

A couple of my favorites...

Old Shep - Elvis Version
"With hands that were trembling
I picked up my gun
And aimed it at Shep's faithful head
I just couldn't do it
I wanted to run
I wish they would shoot me instead"

Tecumseh Valley - Townes Van Zandt

Yesterday When I Was Young - Roy Clark
"There are so many songs in me that won't be sung,
I feel the bitter taste of tears upon my tongue.
The time has come for me to pay for
Yesterday when I was young..."

Pearl Jam "The End".

quote:

What were all those dreams we shared those many years ago? What were all those plans we made now left beside the road? Behind us in the road More than friends, I always pledged cause friends they come and go People change, as does everything I wanted to grow old I just want to grow old Slide up next to me I'm just a human being I will take the blame But just the same this is not me You see? Believe... I'm better than this Don't leave me so cold I'm buried beneath the stones I just want to hold on I know I'm worth your love Enough... I don't think there's such a thing It's my fault now Having caught a sickness in my bones How it pains to leave you here With the kids on your own Just don't let me go Help me see myself cause I can no longer tell Looking out from the inside of the bottom of a well It's hell... I yell... But no one hears before I disappear whisper in my ear Give me something to echo in my unknown future's ear My dear... The end comes near... I'm here... But not much longer.

It pasted it all wrong. But the lyrics are unmistakable in their sadness.

It makes you want to hug your mom, dad, wife, and kids all at the same time. Because you know you're all gonna die one day. frick!!!!

Something by Townes Van Zandt is probably the right answer.

My vote is Marieby Townes Van Zandt. What say ye?

That is definitely ROSEANNE BARR in the audience at the beginning of the video. If not, she has a twin.

Summer of 69- Brian Adams

"Those were the best days of my life"
Here is a guy looking back on a summer of his youth. His life never got better than that summer. The rest of his life sucked compared to a crappy garage band and holding hands on his gf's mommas porch.

He lived a sad, sad life indeed.
