Basically the only two jam bands that "jam" are phish and the biscuits

Umphreys and cheese to a lesser extent

Captain Panic is still a wsp newb. His jam band opinion is on par with my little brothers' or Dave England's.

He seems to be jumping on any new jam bands' bandwagon early in case they breakout and he can pull the "I've been a fan forever" card.

All my friends are into jambands so to be a classic Dan contrarian I try my best to be an a-hole about it all the time and not like them

But I do like some of it

Like I kind of get the Umphrey's love, especially because I like prog music in general

My one big Umphrey's fan buddy showed me a bunch of stuff through the years that made me like them

But like Tier 4 and lower stuff, come on. Those dudes are still playing the bar and small venue circuit for a reason, cause they just aren't really that good

Despite tiers being a huge joke, it's not like you just blow up over night. Especially in this genre considering a lot of it is underground. There's no reason to knock a band based off of where they play/have played. It's about the music they make, not amount of the approval they get from the community.

If you've been around for 10-15 years and you're still playing bars, unless you either never tried to get big on purpose, or made a frickload of of terrible business decisions, then you're just not that good

It has something to do with it I would think. At least in the jam band circles.

Oh I agree with you there. But I don't see who I mentioned falls under that description. Except for maybe dangermuffin but I never said they were going to blow up.

Tauk, for example, has really only been around for 2-3 years unless you count them being a garage band in high school and college. I'm not sure how old Dopapod is but they still play over 150+ gigs a year. Somebody obviously enjoys them. I'll go ahead and add Earphunk to my list because they are playing better now than they ever had before. Which was the original question iirc

The rest play in famous venues across the nation. Except for Sweet Jimmy Carter & The Outlaws but that wasn't a serious answer. I don't expect anybody on this site to know who they are. They are only slightly more real than Heady & The Hurricanes

Tauk and Dopapod are pretty legit.
