"Long, Long Time" - Linda Ronstadt

Juice Newton has a solid cover of it also.

I'll go with Whiskey Lullaby - Krause & Paisley

or

Stupid Boy - Keith Urban

This one is not terribly uplifting either :

Woman on the Wheel - Gretchen Peters

For me it's "These Are the Days of Our Lives" by Queen. It's one of Freddie's last songs and the video to that song is the most depressing thing I've ever seen on video. Every time I hear that song I get reminded of the video. I usually have to change the song.

As far as albums go, Bob Dylan's "Blood on the Tracks" is 40 minutes of serious depression.

And excellent call on "Nutshell" - Alice in Chains on page 1

Fiona Apple - Never is a Promise

Anytime I feel like I need to slit my wrists, I try to avoid this one.

quote:

You'll say you understand, you'll never understand
I'll say I'll never wake up knowing how or why
I don't know what to believe in, you don't know who I am
You'll say I need appeasing when I start to cry
But never is a promise and I'll never need a lie

Pink Floyd - "Paranoid Eyes"

I'd link a video but Warner/EMI are bitches and block it.

Button your lip don't let the shield slip
Take a fresh grip on your bullet proof mask
And if they try to break down your disguise with their questions
You can hide hide hide
Behind paranoid eyes
You put on your brave face and slip over the road for a jar
Fixing your grin as you casually lean on the bar
Laughing too loud at the rest of the world
With the boys in the crowd
You hide hide hide
Behind petrified eyes
You believed in their stories of fame fortune and glory
Now you're lost in a haze of alchohol soft middle age
The pie in the sky turned out to be miles too high
And you hide hide hide
Behind brown and mild eyes

I'll see your "my best girl" and raise you a "nights like these"

quote:

It's nights like these that make me sleep all day
It's nights like these that make you feel so far away
It's nights like these when nothing is for sure
It's nights like these I don't want you anymore
And I've only got this one wish
That I was good enough to make you forget
The only boy who ever broke your heart
Cause nights like these tear me apart
It's nights like these the sad songs don't help
It's nights like these your heart's with someone else
It's nights like these I feel like giving up
It's nights like these I don't seem to count for much
The beer tastes like blood and my mouth is numb
I can't make the words I need to say
She had a weakness for writers
And I was never that good at the words anyways
