Underrated song from the 80’s

Fly High Michelle
One song that I discovered recently that I think should have been a big hit is “Fly High Michelle” by the band Enuff Z’Nuff. It’s a ballad about a girl who died from a drug overdose. Sad subject matter, but a song with great vocals, guitar work, and rhythm. Very trippy video. How many of you know this song?

Enuff Z'Nuff as a whole was horridly underrated as a band IMHO. Great songwriting, solid musicianship. Like a glam/hair era version of Cheap Trick. RIP Derek Frigo.

TheFretShack, I totally agree. From what I've heard from them so far sounds really good. I think they just came on the scene at a bad time. I think that before they got any real momentum, grunge came down like a hammer. I also read there were substance abuse issues in the band, so I’m sure that played a big part as well.

The face of the moon looks like a chihuahua. Guess that's the dog moon.

Love the song and always have. But further prof that 80’s hair metal had run its course.

Can I nominate the lyrics from the Tears for Fears song, "Mad World"?
Of course, I didn't appreciate them until Gary Jules' alteration of the music for the song, which improved it immeasurably.

Katrina and the Waves - Going Down to Liverpool
Great song that was wasted as a b-side to Walking on a Sunshine..
It also had moderate success when The Bangles covered it a little later... their version was not as good IMO, but props for casting Mr. Spock in the video

In the long run, I think most 80's music suffered big time from the trendy sound fads they embraced at the time. All the synthesizers, and electric drum beats, and sound effects etc were cutting edge technology at the time, but that stuff did not age well imo.
But.... if you look for it, lots of those great 80s bands have put out acoustic versions of their work and it's incredible what happens when all the gimmicky synthetic 80s stuff stripped out.
For example:
Aha's "Take on Me" is about as synthetic 80's as it gets-----> LINK.... (1.2 billion youtube views btw. Wow)
But, now listen to it with the synthetic 80's stripped out------> ...LINK
Men at Work is another good example. It's crazy how much more serious their music gets when you strip the 80s technology out of it
