So!!?
I am winning my fantasy football super bowl. Between the winnings and gift cards I will have $325-350. All to blow on a guitar. I will be combing the used section of guitar center.
1. What you got?
2. Anyone have experience buying used from GC and having it shipped from store to store? Is cost minimal since it's just store to store and moving inventory is moving inventory.
3. Agile Guitars? Any experience with these. One poster (can't recall who) got me looking at them. They appear to be a solid LP copy made in S. Korea? They fit my budget and my eye.
4. Fender Strats are definitely being considered. MIM Strats are in the mix at that used price point. Epiphone makes me nervous as a brand. Should they? I have picked up a few in store and feel that I can tell the difference. Am I just over sensitive?
As most purchases like this, I have cash ready (if I win) and nothing but time to shop.

I would save up more money and get something better unless you're upgrading to your first non shite <$100 guitar . PRS SEs are good value but above that price range. Get an American Strat.

Tree Fiddy is enough for a nice piece.

bought a used G&L Legacy Tribute (strat) from GC a few weeks ago. the guitar was less than a year old and i paid under $250
if you are just playing at home, meaning non professional, there are a TON of used guitars that are well within your price range.
as for a mexican vs american strat.. the differences are so small that you would never be able to tell the difference and you will be hard pressed to find a used american for, in decent shape, for under ~$500
the main thing to keep in mind on used guitars is/are the frets. make sure there is plenty of fret available to continue playing or at least to level crown and polish if they are damaged.

Check out a J Mascis Squier Jazzmaster if you get a chance. It's easily one of the best guitars in that price range.

That price range I'd go for a used Washburn PX-SOLAR160C

This is the smartest thing you can do for that kind of money, but admittedly I'm a G&L fanboy. Check reverb.com for tribute series, they are all great. The fallout (kind of a newer model) is pretty sweet but you can also get a quality strat or tele (like, marginal difference in quality compared to American fenders...) for a fraction of the price.
I play a few guitars out at shows and seem to default to my tribute asat special (Tele style) for most gigs. It's just solid.

If you like strats, a used G&L or a mexi strat would be attainable in that price range and serve you well.
If you like LP's maybe check out an Agile AL-3000 or 3500. Whichever one has the P-90 pickups.

To update for some on here who've answered. This would be a beginner guitar. I am in no way looking for something to gig with.
Can anybody answer what GC charges for shipping guitars store to store?
Also, regarding PRS. I've seen them but I am leery of them as they range from $300 to $10000? So I don't know which models if any to avoid.
Also, I keep seeing Schecter everywhere? Held a couple in the store. Are they garbage? Appear to be more of a metal style guitar. I am NOT looking for a Floyd Rose bridge. All I see on them are problems discussed online and ways to block them.

Schecters aren't bad. I play on a schecter some times. They're built for distortion, though. Their clean sound is pretty meh.

Where the hell have you seen a PRS for $300? Are you talking about a used one for that much?

PRS SE really is a good mid level guitar. They used to make them in the entry level price - I have a 2002ish PRS Santana SE for $400 back then and that thing is amazing even now. It was my second guitar after learning on a $100 Ibanez. Very very versatile. They have raised the quality of the SE line and diversified the amount and types of guitars in the line. Tremonti, Santana and others have signature models in the SE line that range from like 500-600 and are great values. They also have SE versions of Custom 22/24 and stuff like that. Good value. Don't know about the used market for these.

Musicians Friend and Guitar Center have had some absurd deals on G&L Tributes (strats and teles, the Legacy and ASAT respectively) in recent months. As in some special editions for 350 or so new.

Forget everything that Epiphone makes, except the Dot - and even then, I'm not sure I would buy used.

Epis are straight garbage. You're better off with a knock-off than an Epi for the money. Agiles and MVGs that cost $100-200 blow equivalent Epis out of the water. Cheap pickups, cheap finishes, cheap electronics, and cheap wood for a mid-range price tag. Complete waste of money.

I picked up a MIM Telecaster at a pawn shop last week,in Pascagoula,Ms. for 250 dollars, including tax. Pretty much a brand new guitar.
It was hidden back behind some junk arse guitars, but my keen trained eye spotted it back there
I figure one of the guys that worked at the shop, was trying to save it for himself.
Honestly,if they sold it to me for that price,I doubt the guy that pawned it,got more than 100 bucks. How can you lose a guitar like that for a few bucks?
Times must be hard,in the sleepy little town of Pascagoula.

Find a used PRS Se for 2-300 and spend the rest on strings. I have Gibsons and Fenders that cost a lot, and my beater go to guitar is a PRS SE with p-90's that stays in my garage. Great guitar for the $$$ and you can find used ones at GC for about 250....

This whole post could be tweaked into a blues or country song. Lol

i talked to a buddy last night and he's had guitars brought in from other Guitar Centers and they charged him $10 for one and $20 for a couple of others.
No obligation to buy.
