According to Pollstar, the average Guns N’ Roses ticket on the “Not in This Lifetime” trek is going for $108.96, with an average of 51,496 tickets sold at each show. In total, the band has sold 1,390,396 tickets at the mid-year deadline, playing 27 cities and 30 shows in all. That comes out to an average gross of $5,611,111 per show and the total gross of $151.5 million. U2’s decision to revisit The Joshua Tree album has also proved quite popular, finishing second on the list with $118.1 million. However, it should be noted that U2 achieved that figure playing 11 fewer shows than Guns N’ Roses.

They also put on great shows. U2 is one of the few big draws left

I'm going tomorrow night in Minneapolis - more excited about Beck than U2. Tired of their pro-Moslem propaganda.
U2's new single "The best thing" is actually pretty good - especially the remix that Kygo played in Europe last year.

Pop is the best album they've released since Achtung Baby. Amazing, underrated album.

U2 or Coldplay are the biggest bands in the world depending on what country you're in.
There is no debating this, it's unequivocally true.
New Orleans is a horrible rock and roll city, always has been. U2 could sell out 5 consecutive nights at Soldier Field or Giants Stadium if they were touring behind a new album that had even limited appeal (No Line on the Horizon or How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb). Hell, they just sold out each of these stadiums for 2 and 3 nights touring behind a 30 year old album with more recent songs mixed in.
U2 is the biggest band in America and Europe. Coldplay is bigger in Asia. They are equally huge in Mexico/South America and could each sell out Azteca on back to back nights.

I may have to revisit that one on your recommendation. All That You Can't Leave Behind was pretty good, How to Dismantle .... was awful, except for Vertigo, No Line on the Horizon was OK, Songs of Innocence was OK.
To be blunt, they're at the late Rolling Stones phase of their careers. They just make albums to justify gigantic tours and when the next tour rolls around, they don't play anything off the album before. (Although to be fair, they played Vertigo when I saw them touring behind No Line on the Horizon)

It does. New Orleans metro is significantly smaller than DFW
Dallas-Ft. Worth population: 7.1 million
New Orleans metro area population: 1.67 million.

A very underrated album. I know the band wasn't happy with the final mix as it was rushed for release before the tour. That's why they remixed Discotheque, Gone, and Staring At The Sun on the compilation album. Last Night On Earth and If God Will Send His Angels are fantastic.
The new song 'The Blackout' is really good.
Some bands/artists are more popular in other parts of the world and some markets in the US are better than others. After seeing the film Ole' Ole' Ole', you see how popular the Stones still are in South America. Robbie Williams sells out stadiums in Europe, Australia, and South America but probably couldn't sell out a theater in NYC or LA

New Orleans is 60% black. It has never been a big rock market (the market relies on Jeff Parish people attending). Many rock acts used to skip New Orleans completely. Things have picked up recently though. Very few acts ever play the Dome though due to the size.
As far as touring goes, like them or not, U2 is still the biggest touring act out there. The only other band even close right now is Guns N Roses and they hadn't toured in 25 years before the Slash reunion. One of the few shows GNR played that didn't sell out was in New Orleans, but it was still a big crowd at 32,000+ (40,000 capacity for that show) in the Dome and it was the most attended show outside of maybe Beyonce around here for some time. I think U2 will probably have that much or more since they apparently don't have seats on the floor and can probably fit a shitload of people down there with general admission.

I would go but not crazy about the play list....

Garth Brooks could sell out any stadium in the country. He just chooses to play multiple arena shows for some reason. The last time he came to New Orleans he sold out the SKC for four shows. That's around 60,000 tickets total. If he did one show in the Dome he could have sold it out or come close. U2 will not sell 60,000 tickets. GnR did play back to back nights in a few cities last year but that's just big markets. Beyonce has been touring stadiums for a few years now and Taylor Swift did on her last tour. She will probably tour stadiums again next year too.

I got tix on Stubhub yesterday for $6.36 each..... too bad i had to pay a $7.20 service charge on each ticket.
Oh well, I get to see Beck for just under $14 a ticket. (I feel like I've been duped into paying a $15 cover to see Chee Weez or some bullshite cover band at some point in my life.) Missed him at JF when they canceled the later acts AFTER THE RAIN HAD ALREADY STOPPED.
U2 will be nice to listen to on my way out of the Dome.

Garth Brooks is impressive - no doubt. He sells tons of tickets and plays 2x in one night at times. I have no clue how that dude has that kind of energy. His ticket prices are all one price for the venues though, so the grosses aren't as high as GNR or U2. U2 sold out back-to-back nights at the Rose Bowl and Soldier Field on this tour. Very impressive. GnR and U2 are the two highest grossing tours right now. I think U2 is averaging like 54,000 fans per show across like 10 countries. That 360 tour they did where they used all parts of the venue averaged like 66,000 per show across 30 countries and is the highest grossing tour of all time by like $200 million or something. On a global scale, U2 is tops by the stats.

They've sold out most of the dome. Other than the resale tickets there isn't much left on the map of available seats on TM.
