Gotta say, that was one hell of a debut album released in January of 1967...

I find that this is one of those albums I usually turn the volume knob to the right a good bit!

My favorite tune from it is their rendition of a Willie Dixon tune, "Back Door Man"

"Light my Fire"--I can listen to it over and over again and it just doesn't get old.

"20th Century Fox" is pretty damn catchy as well as "Alabama Song".

"Break on Through" is a great, short upbeat rock 'n roll album opener.

There is not a song on this album I don't like!

The follow up, released just 8 months later (September '67) was also not too shabby...

"...AND HE WALKED ON DOWN THE HALL"

I really like when a big time artist/group has a debut record that is beginning to end fantastic allowing it to be played for multiple generations of music fans. The Doors debut was creative and vastly different from most things released before it. It also had that rock 'n roll shock value for its time as well (foul language, incest, rape, murder)!!

I realize that there are many folks critical of the Doors music, but I like them for their music at face value--I don't really try to dig deep into lyrical meanings and such...I just turn it up to 11 every time I hear "L.A. Woman"

Hit me up--I recently had hundreds of GD shows dumped on me...long story, but they are Betty Boards and Matrix mixes and all kinds of jam compilations and Space/Drums compilations...about 2TB worth!...neatly catalogued and sorted.

I'll rip it for you if you want--just need to get me a portable 2TB drive.

The Doors music speaks to me. Jim got the mojo when the spirit of that Navajo indian entered into him as a child. He knew what was up.

Two amazing albums! They just released a special 50th anniversary edition of the S/T- 3 CD's, 1 LP. The discs are the original stereo mix, original mono mix, and a 1967 Live at the Matrix show. The LP is the original mono mix. Although I've purchased this album many times over the yrs, I'll probably grab this as well. I hope they do the same with Strange Days...
Also, on Record Store Day, a special LP of the Live at the Matrix show will be available. Def grabbing that one.

Not sure about that, but I so think Robbie Krieger is one of the most underrated guitarists.

Good call-The Doors were slinky, gritty, and dirty and encompassed a time in our history when the Vietnam war was still in full force and race riots seemingly were an everyday occurrence.

I never got to see The Doors but did manage to see Ray Manzarek and White City at The Kingfish in Baton Rouge around 1977.

Best first two albums by anybody IMHO. Zep's first two were great also but I would give a slight nod to the Doors. Sheer perfection.

Yeah--I saw that on the list. I will pick that up as well as the Grateful Dead '66 show that is being pressed for release on RSD.

Our group of 4 will once again be in line at Euclid for RSD if you want to join us (we are usually in the first group of 10)...We get there around 6:30 AM and the other fellas usually have a few Mimosas while we camp out. After we scoop up the goods, we go one block over to Elizabeth's and have a gourmet breakfast.

A buddy of mine had the Doors double cd greatest hits. I was probably 18 or so. So I of course had heard of them and knew Light My Fire, but never really listened to them.

This was the same 6 month period I found Pearl Jam. When Vedder sang for Morrison in The Doors rock and roll hall of fame induction, it was more than my fanboy arse could handle. I recall this was the time of "import and bootleg" CDs at certain stores. I paid $60 for a CD in 1992.

The Doors are still a favorite of mine. Mood has to be right to listen to them. They are a testament to what musical greatness is. Morrison died 3 years before I was born. Yet we still talk about them. They were classic rock then and are old man rock now but when I discovered it it was like finding something totally new. 12-15 minute songs will never make it to radio so The End and When The Musics Over are both incredible as are many other songs.

Anybody in their 20's or younger chiming into this thread? I wonder when, if ever, the Doors can lose their appeal to new fans? Late teens to early 20's are the time in your life where you are most receptive to things. And if those years are great for you, as they are for most, it will be the music you listen to for the rest of your life.
