Morissey was having success but what did Johnny Marr do? Honestly asking. Don’t know if he had side projects
He did a lot of stuff after The Smiths broke up. He joined the Pretenders for a little while, was a member of The The, formed Electronic with Bernard Sumner, played with the Talking Heads, Brian Ferry. He's played on a lot of people's records over the years (Beck, Oasis, Pet Shop Boys, Modest Mouse) and done solo projects. So he's done pretty well - almost as good as Morrissey has done.
I mean, if he felt The Smiths were over and he couldn't take the other members, you might as well bail.

The Modest Mouse album he plays on (We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank) is the most underrated record in their catalog. Not quite as great as their peak 90s stuff, but still really awesome.

I'm pretty sure he was an actual member of the band for a few years...
Same with The Cribs...

I never liked the Smiths until I saw a cover band who absolutely nailed it. They had a perfect Morrissey clone. Seeing it live made me a fan.

Always wanted to get into The Smiths/Morissey but I'm just so scared my parents won't accept me
Didn’t care for Moriasey’s solo stuff. Some decent songs but overall was kind boring and overly dreary (much more so than some of the Smiths songs)

He had some strong singles right out the gate and Your Arsenal is a great fricking album - it's got a little glam rock swagger to it. I think things kinda fell apart for a bit for him - either his manager died or a parent or both. He had a bit of a comeback in the early 00s with You are the Quarry and Ringleader of the Tormentors. It's been kinda mixed since then and the fact that he says increasingly stupid and offensive things doesn't make it any better. (He's a militant vegan who has the racial views of an 85-year-old from rural Mississippi - so there's something to set everyone's teeth on edge)

No he doesn’t. God forbid he doesn’t want his country to become Pakistan part deux. Don’t drink the kool-aid next time.

According to a lot of musicians Morrissey is a huge D bag. There are multiple songs written about him.

Same here. I feel fortunate to have seen him recently at a show that he didn’t cancel.
