The greatest albums that you do not get to experience with anyone/few

I discovered the Sound much later in life. I cannot believe they did not get the attention or recognition of a U2 or a Simple Minds. They are THAT good and on this album and their songs are just infectious -- both up and down.
Had a lead singer killed himself the way Borland did in today's world of social media, I wounder how many would have been dumb enough to follow suit or think that his way was one with style. A train. Jesus.
Anyway, I never see too many people on the MB talking about them. 1979-1980 never sounded so real.

What are some of the greatest albums you listen to that you find it difficult to find an audience for? Or, what simply can you only listen to while alone. Give us an album.

Frank Zappa - Man from Utopia. I tried to share my love for this one with a few folks. Especially the Jazz Discharge Party Hat song. They looked at me and said " you are a weird fricker"........

I've always been into music that not many other people are interested in so this sort of thing is nothing new to me. The upside of that is that when you do run across somebody with the same taste as you, you've got a friend for life. In the early/mid 70's I was mostly into prog rock: Genesis, ELP, Todd Rundgren/Utopia, Yes, Tull, King Crimson, etc. Not exactly underground music but not top 40 either.
But there's one band that I've never really been able to get many people into. Not prog rock at all but straight up rock or pop/rock. The band is Jules and the Polar Bears. Jules is Jules Shear, the guy behind MTV Unplugged and the one for whom Aimee Mann wrote "J for Jules". The Polar Bears didn't last long but Jules had a pretty successful solo career afterwards.
Here are a few of what I consider their better songs.
Real Enough To Love
You Just Don't Wanna Know
Home Somewhere
Following Every Finger
I've never heard of the Sound but they're in the vein of what I would have been listening to during that period of time. Thanks for turning me on to it.

I think the Figments should be as big as Uncle Tupelo/Son Volt/Wilco....but nobody has ever heard of them.

Layla & other Assorted Love Songs - Derek and the Dominos
Everyone knows Layla, the title track, but the whole album is absolutely incredible work. From the impassioned vocals dealing with real life situations to the stellar guitar work from Duane Allman. This album has a pulse.

This. I only knew Layla growing up and actually confused it at times with Lola. Never fully got that the music that began the killings in Goodfellas was the "outtro" to Layla. Youtube helped me discover Bell Bottom Blues and the Johnny Cash clip with She's Gone on it.
That album is incredible. I can't believe I missed it for this long.
Not to compare the two but to answer the OP. Seven Mary Three, American Standard. It was popular for a moment in the middle of Seattle/Alternative's peak. But I loved it from beginning to end.
Bare Naked Ladies too. I wore out Rock Spectacle. Lots of people loved One Week, but I love about 7-8 of the songs on there that nobody else does.

Great sound, how did these frickers not get at least a tremendous cult following, let alone explode!

I really like this band: The Newcomers. Bought a disc of all their stuff. Spans quite a bit of sound.

Thanks for the link.
I listened to the entire album--good stuff.
I also hear guitar playing in there that resembles The Edge. I like U2, but kinda drifted away as I grew tired of Bono and his need to constantly make political stands every time he opened his mouth (this was about about 10 years or so ago--he has kinda been replaced now with a louder and more venomous new breed of idiots)...

I think now you need a little bit of this, my friend:

This is where The Edge truly learned his craft, touring with these guys^

Angels of Light - How I Loved You
I heard bits of this album the first time at this Mediterranean restaurant near the Bulldog back in 2007 or so. I don't even know how I found out who it was (no Shazam). I think I just googled some lyrics. I was a big Modest Mouse fan at the time (still am) and was immediately drawn to it.
It's a very slow moving album but it's solid. I don't know anyone who's heard of them. If you like Modest Mouse, War on Drugs / Kurt Vile, The National, then you may like this album.

Pretty much half of my collection, but I'll throw out Dag Nasty. Man, they were so good, and no one outside DC has head of them.
I played the hell out of this record.
