Their hits were really good but not much else on their albums after that.

Our Lips Are Sealed, We Got The Beat, Vacation and Head Over Heels are "must-listens" when I hear them on First Wave.

Go-Go's
Bangles
Quarterflash
Pat Benatar
Missing Persons
Patty Smyth (Scandal)

And of course.. The Queen herself, Madonna.

That was a great era for chick bands/leads.

Add Eurythmics and The Pretenders to that list if we're including bands with female lead singers.

Love them.

Their 2001 release "God Bless the Go-Go's" is really underrated.

Beauty & the Beat is really a seminal album bridging the 70s and 80s. Lots of really great songs. I don't think there's a bad one on the whold album. Vacation is, IMO their worst. Talk Show is a bit underrated, but somewhat repetitive, so I can see why it wasn't commercially successful. By the time the girls finished that one, they hated each other and barely made it through the promotional tour before breaking up.

We'll not mention the solo career of Belinda Carlisle.

Being a band full of females, there was a lot of arguing and infighitng. They would get together sporadically to tour and to record 2001's God Bless. As recently as a couple of years ago, Kathy Valentine (bass player) once again left the band.

Jane Wiedlin (who, along with guitarist/pianist Charlotte Caffey, was the songwriting mojo behind the band) had a few nice songs as a solo artist, but is mainly known for being a Dominatrix in her post-Go-Go's career.

A few years ago, they did Good Morning America's summer concert series and I was sad to see that they drew only a few 40 year old feminists, a bunch of gay guys, and random tourists wandering through the park wondering "WTF is this shite?", whereas earlier, Lady Gaga had drawn tens of thousands.

Well - and for being Joan of Arc in Bill and Ted:

and the singing telegram gal in Clue:

Of course, as with all things - time marches on - the Go-Gos are all pushing 60 (or already there).

Lust to Love

Great song. The start to it, including the opening lyrics are killer.

No shite. That's when the lead singer of The Police was more Gordon Sumner-y and less Sting-y. Sting is kind of a weirdo.
