Apparently their not dead yet. In addition to the previously reported addition of Deacon Frey, who will step into the spot left vacant with the passing of his father Glenn, the group will be joined by veteran country artist Vince Gill. The Los Angeles Times reports that Gill will split vocal duties with the younger Frey on Glenn’s songs.

Damn. Don Henley won't even let the death of Glenn Frey get in the way of making a few bucks.

Vince Gill is a killer guitar player, not to mention an awesome tenor voice

Sorry, this ain't The Eagles. Let it go Don.

Don't wind up like Skynyrd - just a hired gun tribute band.

The Eagles are ALL about the 3 or 5 part harmony. If somebody sounds wrong in that mix then it will be terrible.

Jackson Brown tried for a HOF tribute I believe. I'm not a Jackson Brown hater but it just did not work for me.

Nobody will sound like Henley and Frey together unless they get lucky or go the Journey route and find a copycat voice.

Vince Gill can outplay anybody The Eagles ever had, so that won't be an issue. If anything he could over complicate it.

Vince's singing impresses me more than his guitar skills.

Nope. Pretty sure they already have the best guitarist they've ever had. It will be the first time they have two accomplished axemen since Felder left, though

I know. He's a younger Ricky Skaggs so that hurts him. He never shreds or anything because his style of music doesn't call for that. Mark Knopfler offered him a job before he became a name.

I think the BLuegrass thing gives guys ZERO street cred.

Thats OK. I don't like it much either.... Try to play it? I suck arse at guitar, so can any of you Baws speak to its difficulty as a style. Can that style and speed and single note playing easily translate into a guy being a hired gun guitar player?

Also, take into account ability at this moment in time, which I was only half assed getting at as well. Throw a guitar at Walsh, Felder, and Gill right now and see who sounds better?

No big deal really. Nashville, Austin, and Southern California are probably chok full of assholes who can play note for note anything The Eagles ever did. You've never heard of them and they probably cant sing, but they can play.

Gill can do both. Will his voice mesh and sound Eagle-esque? I doubt that.

Anybody put an over/under on ticket prices for this? Tree-fiddy for nose bleed?

they should have something worthwhile for their fan base - one either is or isn't one.
Saw their HFO concert in NOLA and one of the best ever.
They do incredible work with monitors and remote cameras.
Look forward to going again.

Gill should fit right in, I always considered Pure Prairie League with Gill to be a very "Eaglesque" group in their day.

Agree....Walsh can seriously play & Felder wasn't a slouch either. Yes, Vince can play too!

Throw a guitar in each ones hands right now. Who is better?

At each mans peak? Maybe I did overstate...?

I'll go with Walsh but Walsh & Vince are 2 different players completely so the comparison (IMO) is bad.
