Of all the 80's pop bands, TFF appears to be one of the most musically talented both instrumentally and with orchestration. They also aren't talked about very often (though I have seen them mentioned here on occasion). Listen to Pale Shelter, Mad World, Mothers Talk, Sowing Seeds of Love and Everybody Wants to Rule the World. There's depth there that is not found in most pop songs.

I love Depeche Mode and The Cure, and I put the talent of TFF on par with TC and greater that DM. They were truly a great band that is more recognized for it's pop fame than it's genuine talent.

Agreed. One of my favorite bands and The Hurting is one of the best albums of the 80s start to finish.

Bigger fan of DM but TFF is right up there for me as well.

I keep hoping every year when the JF lineup is released that these guys will be on it.

The live shows I've seen them on seem great.

ETA: Original Mad World bitchslaps the Gary Jules version.

Saw them at Bonnaroo in 2015 and they were great.

They got lumped in with 80's synthesizer pop but they were a band.

Hear Echo and The Bunnymen on First Wave on Sirius XM. They get my vote for underrated. They struck me as a Cure and Smiths hybrid, but real instruments and pretty damned good.

ETB were very good as well. I much prefer TFF, but I do like them.

Agreed. I always felt their stuff was a level above most of the 80's pop.

Seeds of Love is a brilliant album.

Woman in Chains > Badman > Seeds of Love is 30 minutes of musical bliss!

Solid songwriters working with good producers. Never cared much for the singer though, tended to sing a little flat from time to time.

TFF - Break It Down Again

Love this one from the mid-90s as well.

And since it was mentioned in the thread, E&TB is one of my all-time favorite bands.

Simple Minds is the best "new wave" band of the 80's. IMHO

Roland Orzabal was the talent in TFF. Did most of the writing, played most of the instruments. Curt Smith was the guy with the voice, and chicks liked him. Orzabal kicked Smith out of the band after Seeds, and what happened? He sold like 14 records for the next 20 years. Now Smith is back and they are touring as a legacy act and doing quite well.

I think Crowded House is the best band from the 80s that gets lumped in with the other shite...

Nothing against TFF, But never really went into their back catalogue

If your talking 80's UK New Wave, you'd be more impressed with Simple Minds, or Duran Duran's early stuff. Their stuff made my metal better.
