Ringo and his All-Starr band kicks the Beatles arse any day of the week so these two losers don't mean much, but I'd take McCartney over the a-hole Lennon anytime.

Lennon and McCartney would be the ultimate dueling piano bar night. The stories and back and forth would be epic

McCartney was the uber-talented one, but something about Lennon's distinctive voice and his sense of humor over those years really captivated me and I'd have to prefer him. He gave his heart and soul to rock and roll as evidenced by his vocal on Twist and Shout, maybe the greatest lead vocal performance of all-time.

I don't know if I can decide. They both write great songs. McCartney is a lot more poppy (with exception of Helter Skelter), but he pulls it off incredibly. Lennon was a lot more experimental, and I like him for that. I think they were better together than they were as solo artists.

THIS.

I notice "younger" folks usually side with McCartney, maybe because he's the only one they've known and he's got the rep of being a really cool guy. Yes, Lennon was an a-hole, but his music was usually deeper and more interesting than Paul's. As SUB said, I'll take 'em both.

I enjoyed seeing them live more than I expected.
I like Paul's solo stuff better.

if still alive, John Lennon's solo career would have dwarfed Paul McCartney. Even the little John did before being shot, its still lennon > mccartney

Lennon was more misunderstood than being an a-hole. He had a sarcastic sense of humor and his perspective and thinking was way beyond your average simpleton American of the time. He spoke his mind and basically told people to frick off if they had a problem with it. I like that about him. I like both of them because they are both unique and when they collaborated it produced something exponentially great.

Yesterday vs Strawberry Fields
In My Life vs Here There and Everywhere
Julia vs Blackbird
Dear Prudence vs I Will
Both were outstanding writers and performers; McCartney was obviously the better musician.
Both great.

Do you think today's simpletons and foreigners are smarter? Or just you personally?

To the OP, I'd have to go with Lennon simply based on the post Beatles music. While Lennon has the insipid Imagine that's more than offset by the completely hideous Wonderful ChristmasTime. Seriously - Overall I think Lennon's post Beatles music is far more interesting than McCartney's. And George Harrison over Lennon.
